Everton Youth Teams Thread

Sad news for the lad but may be a bit of a blessing missing England and getting a full pre season. Whats interesting is Unsworth doesn't seem majorly concerned which is a good barometer.

Its nice to see Walsh finally be recognised with that England call up. To have had up to 6 players involved is a massive fillip for the club. When you consider Davies and Holgate are probably our most advanced in that age group you are looking at a core of 8 players who would probably be strong enough to represent England. That is quite some achievement for our heralded Golden generation. You also have Morgan Feeney captaining England the age group below, Evans sometimes involved in national teams as well, and above them a lad like Galloway who's had game time in the 21's. I honestly can't remember us ever having so many players involved in and around England squads.

Walsh has never really had international recognition, which always surprised me as most around the club saw him as one of our most talented lads. Guys like Holland, Yates, Brewster & Donahue have all been given exposure to England squads and have never been as highly thought of as Walsh was by Everton. That seems to be getting appreciated more widely and is indicative of the season he has had that he's forced his way in.

From the way Unsworth talks there is an insinuation that it could be the first of other call ups. Steve Walsh's words about the lads being able to be involved pre-season are also encouraging. I would like nothing more than to see 4 or 5 of the lads who are called up to England being around the first team squad next season. That will have to start with them getting an opportunity, and taking an opportunity in pre-season.

Anyway good luck to Liam getting back to full fitness. He should be raring to go for July and hopefully he can be involved in the first team pre-season.
I was thinking the same about Walsh, shame but maybe a blessing in disguise for him as he'll be there day 1 of pre season. I also thought his face looked liked he'd filled out a bit in last nights shots of him, chance for further strength work which will aid his short stature.

Sounds like you know quite a bit about this group of players.

I've seen Dowell about twice and I dont need to see any more than that. He's class. I'd want to know why if I were him why every other kid seems to be getting a break and he hasn't.
Did last night give you any clue ?

Poor Liam, seems to have bad luck re competitions - he got knocked out 4 mins into the first game of the Dallas cup comptetion a couple of years ago and because of the concussion protocol don't think he got a chance of any further game time :(

..I suppose the only positive is he's already been operated on and his recuperation will be largely in the off-season. I felt for him last night and thought he could've been pushed forward a bit during the ceremonials because he was a key figure in winning the competition.

I'm not sure what his plans are regarding wanting to stay or leave but he should be ok to play football by the start of next season.

Baningime, Williams and Kenny in particular have really impressed me.

agreed. Williams in particular really stood out to me. I kind of expect Kenny and Baningime to excel now, but thought Williams showed a real ability in tight spaces in the final third and a willingness to play in tight spaces.

I'm not expert but Joe Williams will play for the first team for many years. I've said it before, every team needs a Joe Williams to do the dirty work, but if he continues to show more class on the ball, there's not reason he can't make it.

Davies and Williams were a right pairing in midfield a few years ago, so we know they can play together well.

Baningame just keeps making it more and more obvious he's got a future with Everton in my opinion. Kenny too. He'll make it here, I'm convinced.

I'm not saying they will end up being England internationals, but they have what it takes to be at a minimum a squad player for Everton.

I'd hope he'd be fully fixed by August after an operation on a fractured little toe haha.

I'd have my house on Walsh having a better career than Williams. Good player that he is walsh is a class above
