Elton Welsby, mind... take from it what you will.

Who is this Elton Welsby whopper, not the one from ITV sport years ago?? His Twitter does not read as though it's from an ex TV reporter, more the ramblings of a drunk uncle at a family wedding who gets a bit hands on.

Re: Sigurdsson. I like him, he works hard and his set pieces are hugely valuable.

He has zero creativity in open play though. This season he's had 0.72 open play key passes per game which is around the bottom 5% for players in his position. For reference, Barkley has 1.72 per game. An elite player in that position like De Bruyne has 2.51. If we buy Gylfi then I think we'll need a clever creative passer to be a part of our attack/midfield. An attacking midfield of, say, Sigurdsson / Rooney / Barkley leaves us with very little 'magic' around the box and very little pace too. I'd be surprised if we weren't thinking about buying another player in that area.

Don't often look at stats. When you watch Sigurdsson play, I think you see that he is creative. What I would say is:
Swansea don't have the ball in good areas much
They don't get the ball to him enough
They don't get enough players ahead of the ball
The movement ahead of him isn't the best
Their finishing isn't great.

In short - in a better side, he will create chances as he has a good football brain.

Hate to repeat this argument as it was done death years ago, and have no idea whether Siggurdson is like this, but Pienaar didn't register very high on those types of stats either but when in form he was essential to us moving the ball forward even if his wasn't the killer pass.

Elton Welsby! .........lol The real life Alan Partridge  He's clearly ITK, someone needs to start a Welsby Watch thread, keep us all up to date with what's happening in the wonderful world of Welsby ;)

Sort it and get Patrick Roberts while you there:

Kelechi Iheanacho has been told to leave Manchester City after being restricted to a bit-part role at the club.

The Nigerian striker was a regular at the start of the season and hit four goals in mid-October, but has fallen down the pecking order.

Speaking to Completesportnigeria, Iheanacho’s advisor Olumide Olowu has said Pep Guardiola has offered more minutes to Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

"Guardiola seems to have his own players that he wants to play and you can’t expect a young player with huge potential to be wasting away on the bench," he said.

"I’m not speaking for Iheanacho, but as someone who is involved in advising him, I don’t think he has been treated fairly by Guardiola and I think his career will be better elsewhere."

Apparently he called Bolasie and I do know he said Pickford is our number one target back in January so maybe he knows more than some supposed 'ITK's'

He would be a fantastic signing, a lot of potential.
