We're in a different place now though...certainly than we were when going for Martyn. We've just taken two chances on GKs and they didn't come off. I'd take a GK from the Bundesliga before I'd take any from this league apart from Schmeichael, De Gea, Courtois.

Oh come on now mate

surely it was a mistake for utd and chelsea to sign de gea and courtois if its a mistake for us to go for pickford?

I have to say the current rumours have me scratching my head a little bit.

I think Pickford, Keane, Maguire, Gylfi etc are all good players don't get me wrong. They're not cheap though, and they're not left field either. I really hope that there are a number of other signings which fall into those brackets, or we'll genuinely have to start wondering exactly why we tried so hard and paid so much to bring Steve Walsh in. The majority of links we've seen so far are for players any of us could have identified.

Problem is, these days, you'd massively struggle to link us with someone that is considered unknown to a few of us on here. Internet, streams & computer games mean a number of younger fans know the majority of players in the world.

That's not his/her point though.

I reckon it's best to ignore fees, especially this summer.

There will be some proper mental ones so best just to go with it.
This is going to be a summer that smashes all records for fees and wages. We will look back in September and shake our heads in disbelief at the quantities spent not just us but others too.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I didn't really mean players we've never heard of at all. I was more getting at the idea that there must be players out there who are in the position that Keane and Maguire were last year, for example. We probably could have got Maguire for about £5m last year, rather than £20m now. Pickford the same. I thought the idea of bringing Walsh in was to identify those types of players, or the Dutch/Belgian/French league's equivalent of Sigurdsson etc.

They said they wanted left-field signings and I'm saying is anyone even left-field these days.

I understand what you were saying fella and you make a very valid point.

I think the point our comrade was making is that the players we are being heavily linked with are blindingly obvious and ones that my 11 year old son could have identified.

Just what is Mr Walsh getting paid for?

Given the choice, and the money spent I'd seriously consider Joe Hart.

Cheaper than Pickford, better than Pickford, more experience and more of a winner.

Having England's No1 also reflects well on the club too.

Don't like Hart. Decent [Poor language removed] stopper but terrible distribution and woeful judgement.

We need a keeper with distribution skills and speed and judgement of his line. It can make a massive difference to us on the counter attack if we can get a keeper that can kick the ball to Lukuka in the channels and get him one on one with a defender on the break. Speed of the line will also allow us to push a la Spurs/Lloris making a pressing game much more effective
