Enner Valencia

Not the worse player on the pitch today by far but seems to come under more criticism than others. I do agree he is never going to be a prolific scorer and there is better out there that we have to get but can also say that for more than half the team

Would keep him at £5m, laughing at the thought of £13m though.

5m is less them we sold Cleverly for, less then we might get for Niasse, your not going to get anything with Premier League experience for 5m in todays market, a young kid maybe, but for Valenica £13m is about right with him being a striker.

I still think Koeman will take him, he is certainly giving him enough game time, if he had ruled himout I dont think he would even bother being so ruthless.

I like the lad, got pace, tries his best. The way I look at it though, if Lukaku would have got injured for a few games would he be good enough to come in and score goals, his stats say he's a 1 goal in every 8 games player, not good enough.

Now I know the argument could be that a decent striker who knows where the net is wouldn't be prepared to sit on the bench behind Lukaku, to progress though we have to try and bring these type of players in.

...let's not forget, he's playing for his future. Perhaps I'm cynical but I wonder what he'd be like if he's sitting on a 3 year contract.

I would say your argument is fatuous as your only offering is "he's not good enough" and blaming him for a near perfect cross that the intended receiver of which praised him for. Adding onto the fact that anyone who follows the team would've known what I was saying in regards to deadline day context yet you insert the bs rebuttal of "Rom was one too". My argument is that due to the circumstances surrounding his signing people are unable to look past the disappointment of the summer in general and realize that in today's market signing him for 12 is good business for a reliable bench/squad player.

Well let's put this theory of yours to the test then

Everyone in this thread who doesn't think we should sign Enner, is it

A. Because you were disappointed about his deadline day arrival?

Or

B. Because you don't think he's a particularly good player?

Feel free to show your working

I mean, were the people defending Valencia as quick to defend Naismith? Because they're very similar and the general consensus regards Naisy was that people couldn't get him out of the door quick enough, and he was a far more effective player for us than Enner has ever been

Again, I appreciate how hard Valencia works and I wouldn't question his endeavour, but personally I think we can get better for 12 million than him, especially if Walsh shops around on the continent and has a good scouting network set up. He's never going to be any more than an option off the bench here if you ask me, and 12 million for someone like that even in today's TV money climate is just not a good deal, especially as I can't see him getting any better than his current level

Disappointment over Enner coming in at the death of deadline day has nothing to do with it IMO. If that had happened and he'd been brilliant, this thread would be full of people clamouring to sign him. He's worked hard but hardly set the world alight either. Why spend 12 million on him when we have DCL and Lookman on the books who still have plenty of room to develop and get better? Is Enner going to get any better than he is? I doubt it, but the other two might

He wasn't awful today but talent wise he was clearly a massive step below the opposition, as were a few others I could mention

He's not the only player who isn't good enough if we have top team aspirations, and other heads need to and will do go on the block as well, but that doesn't mean he's worth the money

On a free or less than 5 million, then maybe, but not for 12, no way

Let's put this intelligence of yours to work here.

Would you think that people harboring an unconscious grudge against a player are

A. Going to realize it and express it

Or

B. Going to say he's not good enough playing into this little "test" you've set up

Feel free to stop talking at any point.

I think I've worked out who Venture is

Thing is mate what do you think Koeman is thinking? Us fans all have devided opinions on him but the manager I think sees something in him and will buy him. RK is so ruthless he could easily of handed him little game time, but he isnt, he starts him and has bought him on several times when he had other options

Do you really think he's going to go in for him?

I just don't see it, unless he's planning to play hard ball and get West Ham to knock the price down
