Ross Barkley

I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of Barkley and what Souness said about him today is what I've thought of him for a long time. He is like a kid playing footy in the play ground. Runs with the ball when he should pass, passes when he could run with it. He takes too many touches of the ball and waits for players to close him down before he passes and he tries unnecessary things in and around his own box and we all know his decision making isn't great either.

Yes he has improved of late compared to how he has been playing the last couple of seasons but I don't think he's been really good week in week out like some say.

But today everyone were poor, not just Barkley...

And yet still better than any other English midfielder in the premiership.

Coutinho may have or not done anything for months but he has more goals than Barkley, similar assists and he shines on big occasion. Also important part of Brazil at this moment.

De Bruyne may be having a poor season by his standard, but he has same goals as Barkley and more assists. This is while Barkley is having what many are saying his best season.

I also forgot Eriksen.

Barkely can be a good player for us, but if people expect him to be our leader and to build the team around him, sadly won't happen.

He certainly turned up in those 2 cup finals last season didn't he...

I agree with this so so so much.

Nothing came off for him today but he has to do everything to get an attack going on his own.

If we had Mata, Coutinho, effing peak Zidane it would be the same. We need to learn some different ways to get at the opposition. Other than give it to Ross and pray something comes off.

really wasn't helped by Davies having to play so much deeper today either, think he's the player who when further forward brings out the best in Barkley due to him constantly overlapping and giving him option

Our movement off the ball is atrocious. It seemed we weren't even doing the basics in that game. Badly needed Colemans support in attack.

...he's a confident and talented footballer so he will get his foot on the ball and try but he fails to impact games when its most needed by the team. He wasn't as bad as the game at Goodison but you could hear their fans laughing at him. He's been terrific of late but I'm afraid he played with little or no intelligence today.

Who did play with intelligence in the team today?
