we have one game a week, we dont need to rotate. 6 central midfielders( 7 if you include the alco) for a team not in europe is far too many.

Maybe its just his fitness or something to do with the whole playing for Ireland when not fit, but on paper McCarthy is exactly the type of player Koeman seems to want.

True, but what about if we finish 7th and that puts us in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League? Barry should just be discounted right now. He probably has some sort of agreement with Koeman that he will be used sparingly as a squad player and we will allow him to beat Giggs most PL appearances record. After that I am sure he will be a last resort.

Our 2 favoured defensive midfielders will now be Gueye and Schneiderlin. But we still need back up and I see McCarthy as the first choice back up defensive midfielder. Obviously Davies is a different type of player but is ahead of McCarthy but only Besic has a chance at being kept on along with McCarthy in my opinion. Gibson and Cleverley are finished at Everton.

Yeah, had a good game yesterday but my point was more longer term. I don't see him getting much of a game beyond this season and even then when Gueye is back from the ACON, he will struggle to get a starting place.

Tbf, I've never from anything Koeman has said thought that McCarthy is not in his plans. And why wouldn't he be? He's a player than gives his all and gets in opponents faces; picks up a lot of second balls in the middle and recycles it.

We can get that level out of him but only for 60 minutes before his legs go these days. Still he was close to being the best player on the pitch over those 60 minutes.
