I would hazard a pretty strong guess that Memphis Depay and Schneiderlin are players wanted by Koeman.

If both arrive permanently you are looking at £40 million plus.

If that happens, what is the point in Walsh? He would have been completely undermined in the area he is responsible for, player recruitment.

to buy lookman. And buy players like gueye and to scout more and more players for future managers and seasons.

Koeman is doing what many new managers do, going after a couple of players they've worked with before and they can rely on. As we saw with brendan rodgers, after a couple of years you sort of run out of former players who you can sign as an upgrade so you need others. We may but those two, as well as 3 or 4 found by walsh, that's not making him pointless or undermined.

Ok mte well can you tell me where in these quotes from Steve Walsh he says he handles the negotiations.
That's the established definition of a DOF, if you do not believe that that's up to you, think he washes the boots if you want, however the definition is a fact nothing more nothing less

It's the definition of one persons role, not the ibso facto definition of what every DOF does, so it's not a fact other than the person it's related to. I can tell you we've have several DOF's and each of them brought different things to the table and their roles differed depending on experience. Some were in control of contracts and bids, others had someone doing that side of it for them. It entirely depends on what you want from them.

You need to ask yourself if it would make sense to lumber him with that side of it when a) he has no experience of it and b) it could detract from the very reason you wanted him in the first place, his scouting and team building. Why on earth would you do that?

Sure he'd have input onto that side of it, advising on what players are worth and having a general overview of things. But it would be ludicrous to have him doing the nitty gritty day to day stuff of handling contracts and bids and negotiating with agents and other teams.

I agree, he needs time to get things sorted. He doesn't have a magic wand to instantly make things better.

September, October, November, December.

He's had 4 months and identifying and signing players are really his only job duties as far as I can tell.

I am not expecting him to wave a magic wand and make things better but I was expecting him to bring some professionalism to this club in terms of how we go about transfers. Getting the signings in early was a part of that.

9 days into the month and only the one deal for a promising young lad from League One sorted.

If we do sign Schneiderlin and Depay then I would be wondering why we couldn't have got it done sooner.

Don't think he will be involved with the negotiations regarding fees etc

I'd have to wonder why we bothered with the DOF title if he isn't. He'd basically just be another scout then.

He oversees youth development too and acts as sort of a middle man between Unsworth and Koeman regarding recommending players for the first team. He has nothing to do with financial transactions.
