Ross Barkley

Some lovely one and two touch passes and control and in the first half, although we did not create anything bar a million corners, he dictated play.

Seemed the bloke next to me expected magic every time he touched it and got mad when nothing happened. He had a static rom, a slow Barry and a lively Valencia - with a terrible touch - to pass too.

Definitely not at fault and being subbed for Kone will do nothing to help his confidence.
This is part of the problem. If he doesn't do something amazing every time he gets the ball he is hammered.

I am not saying he has been great this season but most of the team hasn't.

Ross will play better with actual players around him. It's tough to be the creative player with zero help from the wings or the players behind him. Some of the best wouldn't be able to work with that

Ross will be better with better players around him, it would also help if some of those players weren't as static as we are at present. We are so easy to defend against the majority of the time due to our lack of movement. You can see why Lookman (albeit for the future) and depay are targets.

He and Davies are the only ones who are consistently looking up for movement and it doesn't come. So frustrating.

Lookman will have a bigger impact down the road but he will play this season too

This lad is never going to make it, not at Everton anyway.

Never seen a player lacking in confidence as much as him.

What do you mean not make it?

He has been playing in the Prem League a while now. Has had one very good season and plenty of other good games in the rest. A quick look at stats gives something like 25 goals in 160 games and I dunno how many assists. He is, at the very least, a decent Premiership player. At the very least. I would say that he has of course made it at Everton. His bad games and bad runs of form/confidence do not negate the positives.

I think when you say never make it at Everton its a good example of the problem coming from many fans and the media. I think what you are really saying is he has not become the great footballer many thought he would. He can't win if thats always the benchmark. His contribution so far is, again at the very least, worthy of a place in our squad in the premier league and when in form he is worthy of that starting place.

As for his confidence...lots of players suffer from that but yeah he does seem mentally weaker than many. However, as others are saying above, lets see how things go for him when we get a more solid team and things are looking good in general for the club. I wouldnt want him binned off for looking poor in the mess we have been for a couple of years.

As I've said before if he doesn't get more consistent or move up a level he is still good enough to be a squad option for us, and I am happy to have a local boy and a blue in there that can contribute when needed, and that can really shine if only occasionally.

Nail on the head there mate, some people see what they want to see with Barkley. It doesn't help that 90% of the time he's played out of position but his lack of aggression is what makes people get on his back and I can't disagree with them on that. To say he won't make it at Everton is ridiculous though I've grew up watching far worse footballers than Ross Barkley and still 5 or 6 worse performers weekly over him.

It's so frustrating.

He has all the attributes to be a top player, but for some reason it isn't happening.

Some players don't suit certain styles.

Based on the other thread, he hates all our wide players too because they're physically weak.

If its true, I just feel like these players don't suit his style.

And you're talking 10+ players.

Sunday People gave him a 5 (out of 10) for yesterday
Sunday Times a 4

Lowest scores for the whole team.

Something is badly misfiring here. I do wonder what he'd be like if he hadn't had that double leg break or the alleged threats from a crim.
