Ronald Koeman discussion

..we'll never know but my opinion is that we were in free fall last season. Had Martinez stayed I feared for us, I doubt we'd have the points we have now. I'd give Koeman credit for the points we have, I think that return is good with with the players we have.
Relegation was only ever an issue since the 90s when Moyes took us to an all time low of 39 points for a season in 2003/04.

There's no way we were in any serious trouble under Martinez. Anyone who saw the shambles of the 90s (you included) must see that?

There's no way Martinez could have stayed on anyway. Senior professionals had disgracefully downed tools and were tanking games. That can't last. We know who they are and I'll never forgive them and hope they get binned ASAP for the utter wronguns they are.

Another way of saying that mate is that thus far Koeman has improved nothing.

I agree. In fact I'd go further and say he's regressed the way we play - reducing it to a long ball game when we fought for years to get away from that savagery.

Over the last couple of games we've tried to play a more short passing game similar to what we played under Martinez. Because there's been no-one capable ( or willing ) to take a risk, that style hasn't worked very well.

In many ways watching us last night and at Leicester wasn't massively different to watching us last season. Plenty of possession, but not much in the way of quality.

What exactly were some of you expecting? We're already in a better league position than the past two seasons. Yes, performances haven't been great but he's only been here six months. We're actually in the best position we could possibly be in. We're nowhere near the level of the top 6.

Yup but still better than Martinez. We needed someone better than Moyes, no proof we yet have it yet. But ok, no point in bed wetting half way through a season eh?
I'm not bed wetting mate. I expect a big improvement from this feller, because it can't be any worse in many respects.

Worst brand of football I've seen since Walter Smiths time here. Ugly and completely without merit.

That Leicester game was more Moyes than Martinez. And so what we tried to get on the ball against Hull? That's very brave isn't it? Let's see us do it against any teams outside the bottom tier. I don't think we'll see it too often, tbh.

The feller plays a cowardly brand of safety first "football". Im certainly not the only one who has that opinion and if it continues it won't be tolerated by the majority. Not even Everton fans brought up on the Duncan Ferguson period hoofball will stomach this season after season.

He was sacked because of the unacceptable results. He lost 9 games out of 18 from this time last year till the inevitable sacking. 29.33% winning rate in 75 matches. If he stays on he will takes us down. You know that we know that he had lost the dressing room.

I don't think you watched the same Leicester game I did then mate. We tried to play the short-passing game, didn't get forward with it so knocked it back to keeper or defender who then hoofed it. We saw pretty much the same last season too.

I would agree Koeman is, at least currently, adopting a safety first attitude, and, as far as vocal posters on forums go, you're probably right with the "and if it continues it won't be tolerated by the majority."

But, if it's seen as a means to an end and a temporary measure, then the majority of Evertonians will be happy to go along with it for at least the rest of this season and probably next season too.

Don't be fooled into thinking a few noisy posters on a forum represent a majority. Most Evertonians are reasonable, patient people.

We needed ONE THING: a defence that were disciplined enough to defend.

What we didn't need is a dramatic change in style of play with the players we have
. But that's what Dutch Pulis has handed us.
Sick that I agree with Dave here. Koeman ideal winger is an Anichebe/Kilbane hybrid, hardworking and strong first, technical ability and vision much further down the list

You can stamp your feet all you want mate. The ONLY relegation threatened season we had after Smith was put in by Moyes. The histrorical data backs that up 100%.
