I think he struggles in our midfield. Centrally hes on his own with little movement and has to cover a lot of space between lukaku and our dms, particularly when barry plays. If you put him in a highly confident free flowing team he would recapture his form from martinez' first season. He is burdened to much by his own fragile confidence and fans turning him into the new scapegoat.

This is the biggest problem with the team right now. The spacing between the midfield and forwards is too wide and the backline is set too deep when Barry and Jags play

There was a point last night where Williams had the ball deep and was looking for Barry or gueye to drop in the space behind their striker. Neither bothered so he clumped it up and it came back. Says it all about how the team is functioning for me. Even with 2 dms on there's no link between our attack and defense. It's been better when someone like McCarthy or Davies plays instead of Barry because the opposition have the thought they might have to drop off because they are way more mobile than Barry and can take the ball forward. Because Barry is so slow they can press him every time which usually results with more clumping and us losing the ball.

We really are a mess with Barry in there. The Arsenal and Liverpool first half made it blatantly obvious

...I'm now of the opinion we need better. If the manager wants to keep him, fine but I think a truly top and consistent player in that position will make a difference. He does some daft things on the pitch that make you wonder, when Lukaku put him in the 2nd half, I was waiting for him to bury one in the far corner but he side footed it at the keeper. He did well for his goal, he does some really good things but he's simply not capable of running games on a week by week basis.

Its the gap between the DM's and the forwards that cause him to pass the ball poorly

...he had a free kick against the Reds where he tried to roll Coleman in who was 3 yards away from him, he didn't put enough weight on it but Coleman did well to recover and get it back to him. He promptly hit an attempted cross into the top tier of the Gwladys St.

2nd half last night we had a free kick deep in Hulls half, he rolled it 5 yards to one of their players and they broke. They were attempted passes to players in his proximity and the outcome was abject. It's an amazing excuse that he can't pass to Everton players because they aren't close to him.

Let's face it mate. You really don't like Barkley and nothing he does will change your mind.
Happy New Year.
