Ross Barkley

If he at least put the basics in of work rate, aggression, decent first touch, considered passing etc. then I could forgive him a lot. When he spends most games walking around, jumping out of 50:50s, getting easily bullied off the ball, messing up simple passes, and ballooning set pieces then it's hard to get behind him. If he had zero talent you could just write him off as not good enough but when you can see how gifted he is you have to put it down to rubbish attitude, poor concentration, lack of practise, and shoddy physical condition.

Think that's a bit harsh on the lad to be fair.

Or perhaps, if you can spare a dash of empathy, you'll see he suffers from a lack of confidence.

He doesn't play poorly just because he forgets to play well.

He is not good enough. Do we want to be a Martinez type side (mid table at best), or do we want more? I want more, which means we have to get rid of players like Barkley, we have already palmed another phoney off in Stones, Barkley going will be a good thing as well.

I have been a critic of Barkleys but it sometimes feels that we're in danger of making this all his fault. It is ridiculous to be honest.

He has qualities and he does show them. I want more as well, but I think Barkley is a player who is worth keeping.

The problem is players like Valencia who runs at full tilt pretty much all the time and shows no football brain what so ever - he absolutely isn't good enough for a top 6 club. When he skinned his man in the first 5 mins you're thinking 'RUN' it's what you're good at. Attack the space. But no he decides to pass it to Lukaku with at least one man up his arse.

Not good enough for top 6... look at the whole squad and who would the top 6 buy. Lukaku, Gueye and... they'd probably take a chance on Ross.

I specifically remember that Valencia bit and it was ridiculous. But just because Valencia isn't good enough doesn't mean we should let Barkley get away with murder. At this moment in time, we have a shedload of players who aren't good enough for EFC.

Absolutely bored of this trash talk!
There were two players on the pitch tonight who looked like they could muster something, one was kev and the other was Ross.
One was taken off when we should've been going for the winner, the other scored.
I really think I watch a different game.
Not the first time I've been wrong about stuff but, don't think so this occasion.

Mixed bag tonight. Some wofeful decision making but still tried to do something different to get us into game
Delighted to get his goal. Not a number 10 for me.

Ye agree. It's more from a balance perspective than saying Barkley should be given more leeway.

Separately, I don't think he had a great game tonight. But he was decent and had good moments. He does leave you wanting more but at this moment in time, i'd rather see him on the pitch than off it.

Thought he did well tonight and was one of our better players. Gueye and baines were pants but they won't get the neg comments because they're the darlings at the moment. Two centre backs were all over the place at times too. Lukaku largely anonymous but had Barkley not scored this thread would be full of the usual he's dross comments.

Gueye won't get negs because he's been playing well this season and had a bad game today... baines set up the goal and played ok IMO... played lukaku in and IMO is the best passer in the team... nobody else (apart from Davies) actually plays balls into the striker feet along the floor .
