Stubbs is immensely popular in Edinburgh, having won the Hibees the cup after years of hurt. But he didn't get them promoted and his Rotherham sojourn suggests he would be out of his depth for a big club.
Nevertheless he had the get up and go to give it a go and is therefore far more experienced than Unsworth. Not that I would want him necessarily, but equally I don't want Unsworth either.

In other words any future appointment of Unsworth is down to pure misty eyed sentiment?
Thats a a poor reason to appoint a manager and probably doomed to failure.
I don't see it that way. He's a very progressive coach who has done a really great job with the youngsters, he's tough and demanding but also very positive. He can organise a team to be solid at the back, play good football and press all over the pitch. He handled himself really well at the end of last season.

In the still unlikely eventually of having to replace Koeman , would you advocate a league 2 manager? . Because that's about the overall standard of the u23s league, without the pressure. Also worth remembering that v Norwich Joe Royal co- managed.

A bit like hiring a manager whose massively underperformed at half the clubs he's managed?

But its not is it? One is proving himself internally and played a system and style in one game with two days to prepare which Koeman can only dream of 6 months later.

I would advocate giving him a chance in a caretaker role. Joe Royle helped him out but there was no doubt Unsworth was in charge.

The other thing I've always thought about Unsworth is that he's brilliant under pressure. He started his career at Everton in a relegation dogfight with Mike Walker. There was plenty of senior pro's who buckled under that pressure but Unsworth was completely unfazed. Again in the FA cup final he was up against Mark Hughes, played him off the park.

Then he was best penalty taker I've ever seen at Everton, completely cool under pressure, pretty much always scored and didn't miss when it really mattered (20 out of 23). Here's what he says about penalties
"But the other is mentality. You have to have that inner confidence to do the hardest thing in football, which is to score goals, and I think the best penalty takers are technically sound, but also have great inner confidence. And how can you measure that? You have to be supremely positive, you have to be confident you are going to score - and if you don’t score you have to be able to go again without it playing on your mind."

I wouldn't be worried about Unsworth under pressure I think he'd thrive on it.

Excellent view

I wanted Unsworth this summer. I still feel he should be our next manager. With a Technical Director in place, the position of "Manager" is more of a 1st team coach. You can't tell me Unsworth doesn't know how to coach.

I'm not slating Koeman yet, but I just don't get the sense he gets us. At least Martinez was brilliant at that.

As I've mentioned before , our DoF's job would be made slightly harder when trying to encourage foreign players to sign for a coach very few ,if any would of heard of.
Martinez, didn't 'get us ' he took a business degree and knew how to persuade people to buy old rope by pretending to be their best friend , something he was very good at a top sales rep.

Then build from within. What's the point of having an awesome academy if you never give any of them a chance to play?
