Ronald Koeman discussion

A mate of mine from Belgium read the original article and he said that's exactly what Koeman was quoted as saying.

His remarks have been mistranslated by our 'papers.

So this bit was mistranslated by our media?

"Romelu will not have made the most of his career if he plays for Everton for the remainder of his career."

@Dutch Toffee seems to think the opposite of your mate:

Nothing to do with misquoting I'm afraid, nothing lost in translation either. When I read the original article I come to the same conclusion as with the translated one. No point denying, he did say it.

@Dutch Toffee has confirmed that Koeman made these comments a couple of pages back...
Everton mag geen eindpunt zijn?
"Neen. Normaal gesproken niet. Als Romelu tot het einde van zijn carrière zou spelen bij Everton, dan weet ik dat hij wat heeft laten liggen. Zijn potentieel is groter en hoger dan Everton als eindbestemming."
Translated as:
Everton shouldn't be the final destination?
No, normally it shouldn't. If Romelu stays at Everton for the whole of his career, than I know he hasn't taken all his opportunities. His potential is higher and better than that of Everton as his limit.

Now, he might have meant it a bit different, but imo it's exactly as translated by the English media.

Sounds even worse

I think it's worth reminding ourselves that Koeman signed Charlie Austin, who struggles to get out of bed in the morning and is less mobile than my nan, before we start making pronouncements about how he only wants turbo charged strikers who work like Denis stracqualursi on acid.

The mans not a fool, and i'm pretty sure he recognises talent when he sees it.

Of course.

But it doesn't mean he feels like said player isnt 100% what he wants.

If we scrape a flukey win against Swansea - in the manner of every game we have won this season - or heaven forbid, draw or lose, Koeman is in for a firestorm.

We need a complete reverse of the Chelsea result and a thumping 5-0 win ourselves, against the team at the bottom of the (so called) Premier League form table.

For me, this is still a Martinez team and I have seen not one ounce of difference under Koeman's tenure.

And now he's talking us down. It's beyond belief!

No excuse. No lost in translation. This is not a manager being caught out, or being selectively mis-quoted. He has made it clear that Lukaku's future lies elsewhere.

Eleven mediocre, uninspiring, fortuitous games in, I am beginning to think his may too.

If our manager cannot be relied upon to big us up, what hope have we got?

No I get what you mean mate. I just think a lot of people are using Shane Long as the prototype of what Koeman looks for in a striker, and keep saying that Lukaku isn't mobile enough or can't press enough. It's important to remember that that isn't necessarily the case at all.

Cool story David, tell it again

I think Koeman should explain exactly what meant to say, now. In fact, I'm surprised that he hasn't done so.

If what he said has been interpreted correctly he should say so. He may have been making a different point without making
himself clear, and if so, tell us what he really meant.

Was he speaking English when he made those comments posted by Dutch Toffee or was it a translation?

I'm not trying to make excuses for him, it's just that it's such a stupid thing to say and he doesn't strike me as being stupid.
