Let's not kid ourselves

I'm not criticising Koeman - I'm saying he has no chance with this squad of players because of the abortion of a transfer window we had.

That's what I'm recognising - that we're nowhere near good enough for Europe. It's not a criticism of the manager.
He said he'd need two years to get his squad together, he's had 1 window.

I know, and I agree with him. Except he's had one window totally wasted thanks to Moshiri et al.
Can you name a team that's tried to build a team in one window and been successful that following season? Two twos cone to mind tonne Spurs and Liverpool, with what they spent using Bale/Suarez they badly underachieved. We improved our first team by 4 players, really dissapointed notbto grt another striker and Koeman wasn't to know Barkley's regression would continue.

We are not as good as some think we are. We are currently between 7th and 10th for me. Can beat anyone on any given day but can also lose to anyone. Some of our players are average and some are very weak mentally as will. I think we need to ado players who are winners but that isn't that easy

In terms of the value of our squad we probably are about 7th. Anything higher than that would be a really good season. If we finished lower than 8th I'd be pretty disappointed.

You're not reading what I'm saying. I'm not saying the squad should have been completely built in one window - I'm saying that it shouldn't have been completely wasted.

Ah, let's close the forum eh then and be a bunch of Captain Hindsights in July.
Obviously the positive has to be balanced with the negative, or we'd all just be blindly positive like Martinez was and end up sleepwalking into oblivion, but my personal preference is to remain positive for the time being, as in;

and lets not go totally...'Doomed I tells ya, we're all doomed'. As to a points total I see 51 as just a little low...57-ish IMO

We're a long way from the depths of Walker/Martinez...at least for now.

We are where we are. We don't have the squad to be challenging for a top 6 place. Koeman has come in and has had one wasted window to try and improve things. Gana is a significant improvement to the squad. Koeman is trying to get us to play a more direct style of football following two years of going sideways.
I feel he has improved us, not by as much as we had hoped. I think we all thought the transfer window would be more successful.
I am content that he has us moving slowly in the right direction and given two more Windows will have us in Europe.

Rather than an arbitrary time period, it just feels like there's an obligatory mass fume after every result that doesn't go our way.

I feel we could do with retaining at least some positivity for the time being, personally, otherwise we'll do our own heads in with negativity.

I'm very guilty of fuming at individual results but I'd like to think I hold a fairly balanced and realistic view of the overall picture. I'll keep saying it but I will never be happy with a defeat no matter who it's against.
