Single malts

I know its a single grain whiskey, but has anyone had Haig Club? If so is it nice?
Had a shot in a pub last year and liked it. Told my wife and she then bought me a bottle for Christmas. Was a bit underwhelmed. When I found out she paid £45 was even more so. However, they now have an entry level called Haig Club Clubman which Tesco are selling at £15. At that price it's OK.

Cheers buddy, will buy a 5ml bottle for 3 quid to see if I like it

Totally agree. I didn't think much of it.
A bottle of the Aldi Glen Oran I think it's called, for the £14 I paid last year would have been better.
Aldi's Highland Black is bloody marvelous for the money, it's a blend but it costs a little more as a decent bottle of wine.

There's nothing wrong with spending £45 on a bottle of Whisky though mate, if you let us know what floats your boat, we'll try and recommend something for your price range.
Would go up to £30/35 at the minute to get the proper taste for a decent whiskey

Just had a look for you and there are some pretty nice drops on offer in the supermarkets right now.
Old Pulteney 12 Yo £25 from Asda. There is no reason why everyone on here should go and buy a bottle of that at this price. Very good whisky and often found at this price

Strathisla 12 Yo £25 from Waitrose. Again absolute steel for the money, only you probably don't have a Waitrose on your door step.

Aberfeldy 12 Yo £28 from Tesco. Very decent. As with the three above all good introductions to single malts, nothing obnoxious about them.

Now for the devil in the pack, this is marmite of malt you'll either love it or truly detest it. Smoke and iodine spring to mind but at £26.50 a bottle of Laphroaig 10 yo going at Asda is a good deal, be careful not to get the bottles mixed up and leave with the Select which goes for £25.

All of those bottles are usually £35 + bottles of scotch

Will keep them in mind if I see them. Cheers buddy.
