Ross Barkley

I got stick for pointing this out last year. People were getting on his back for not defending, when it was crystal clear he was operating in a certain role that he'd been given, and that if you wanted to criticise him for not defending, blame Martinez for it.

Haha he was a fraud of a lad wasn't he?. Makes me laugh now, brassed it out for so long. He'd be selling used cars and riding the neighbours wife if he wasn't a football manager. Utter blagger.

Here it is:

It works on sliding scales. Barkley does not have any job allocated to him to defend. That's the way the system is tactically set up.

If you have a problem with that, look at the manager, not the player playing to instruction.

As said, if we played a different system, then perhaps Barkley would be required to defend and would then deserve criticism. As we don't, he doesn't, so he shouldn't.

Using that analogy again, if the electrician had nothing to do, that would mean the management of the job was at fault, wouldn't it?

Of course. But we don't defend from the front in that way. We have two defensive midfielders and hold shape until the opposition come into our half. Then we press and counter. That's how we defend.

So again, Barkley doesn't defend from the front, as he shouldn't be, because we don't do it.

It's not like I'm making any of this up; they're all very obvious facts. The reality is you're wanting to see something from a player that he can't do in the system his manager employs. We don't press high, and we don't use Barkley in any defensive capacity whatsoever. So it comes down to criticising him for doing his job - which is to move into space, be available for the ball when we are in possession, and distribute intelligently with it to supporting players.

It was bloody obvious as well, but people insisted on blaming Barkley for it, because that's apparently what people do regardless of the evidence in front of them.

Not sure what point your trying to make here, but Ronny has stated he wants the whole squad pressing, from the front 2 to the back 8.

Hes not doing what the manager expects of him, neither is Lukaku for that matter, but 1 of them has scored 5 goals.

I've not read this back, but whilst I agree about the tactical set up, I don't think it can be used to completely exonerate him from a lack of awareness of what to do when he's in the vicinity of the opposition with the ball or, if say, a 50-50 is taking place and he demonstrated no clue as to what he should be doing to help his team.

Koeman is asking him to do the pressing game like we can all see, as part of a tactical instruction for the team. It's evident that he doesn't know how to press and he doesn't seem to appreciate where the next pass will go... yet. I'm still of the belief this can be learnt and he has improved at it which is something to build on.

The Skem snitch has got some nerve talking about Barkley when he's one of the worst players ever to play football.

He's too anxious. You can't play that way in a league this fast-paced. If he doesn't learn to let instinct take over he will never reach his potential.

He's not tho... and enner Valencia is ok on FIFA lol.. I even sign niasse just for chemistry with Kone
Huh? His dribbling is unreal on Fifa, and his shooting is sound aha - but personally I think Valencia is as bad as Niasse on Fifa, Kone much better

Regardless of this it doesn't warrant him just letting opponents coast past him when they are 2 foot away.

He needs to show that he wants it more for me.
