Clapping Naismith

Anybody else remember Ronaldo (the Brazilian one) getting a standing ovation at Old Trafford from both Real and Utd fans?
Or Messi 's ovation at the Bernabeu?
Or Barca's Ronaldinho's also at Madrid?
We have cry arses cry arsing at applauding The Albino Pele.

Everton that.

Don't see the problem with respectful clapping for an ex-player who showed respect for us by not celebrating. Even so as others have mentioned I don't think it would have been the case if it had been an 88th minute winner.

I can widen this argument and make this topic pale into insignificance by saying sometimes I want to clap when brilliant goals are scored against us, I don't, I just doff my cap to them. At the end of the day I love football and although I hate Everton losing or goals being scored against us, I can recognise and support brilliance* whether it comes from us or not. (*Except when it's the RS every goal they score is just a poke in the eye with a sharp stick)

Too bad we all have gone down the route of deep set tribalism that blinkers civilised good grace and manners.

Loads of people near us applauded the 2nd goal too.

Weirdo's.

He didn't celebrate the goal and have everything for us. The crowd clapping was nothing more than acknowledging that. I'm sure if he had been kissing the badge taunting us we would have heckled him. Sadly we have a section of super tribal fans now who think you're not a super tan if you give an inch to any player who is not at Everton. They'd probably not even clap the opposition goal keeper. Even Real Madrid fans applauded Ronaldinho off the pitch.

I think it's because he's a decent lad who has done decent kind acts for the people of the city of Liverpool . Helping homeless people . Giving away tickets to games (bought out his own pocket) to evertonians who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford to go to Goodison .

We know he was a very limited player but he cost nothing sold him for a daft amount and he always tried hard . He also scored some memorable goals .

Totally different and you know it, clapping an outstanding performance is a different ball game entirely.

don't know if your being sarcastic here haha?

the Ronaldo who scored a stunning hatrick in the champons league, the Ronaldinho who scored 2 worldies and had probably the best game of his career in that game, or the messi one ( don't know what he did but it's messi so probably something amazing )

were talking about a player who wasn't and never was good enough for us, slip on his arse and score a horrid goal. wouldn't boo the lad but clapping is insane

See above

It's wrong, never seen another team do it ever, RS, Spurs, Man U.

Clapping a former player scoring against you, just isn't right IMO.

You not been going long then?

I'll always clap Naismith, embraced the club when he was here and the city. True professional and he acknowledged the fans straight away. True gent.

Always been applause for good goals as well, maybe not so much now but please don't compare us to rs fans or mancs. We are a different class. If you want to put yourself in their category and mindset then I suggest you pick one to follow.
