Ross Barkley

Really is starting to feel like he won't quite make it, he's had ample opportunity to learn and improve in the #10 role but he's not quite kicking on. Still a good player, but not the world beater so mqny expected.

I see him as an impact sub. Maybe the triple leg break is still in his mind regarding getting a good tackle in. I still don't see him as a guaranteed starter.

Think he's got to learn how to tackle in order to drop back and replace Barry, can't see him getting in the team otherwise. Someone like Mata when played as a #10 is streets ahead.

BAWK mate. BAWK.

Ross needs some real help though, I agree the comments from the manager aren't helpful even if they are accurate at the moment. Some sportsmen simply don't make it despite having all the talent at their disposal due to mental illness, doubt or anxiety.

Straight up it looks to me like Ross has something like that.

He had the opposite last season with Martinez praising him for a height no matter how rubbish he was.

He's just an average player that is capable of producing the odd moment of brilliance.

I think he's better than that. I think he's got it in him to be great. The penny needs to drop that he has to do more than just recycle possession though, he actually has to make things happen. If he can't do that he won't progress beyond where he is now.

So Ross is this season's Cleverely, is he?

I know football can be a tricky sport to understand, but our problems don't boil down to one player.

I've read some absolute trash on here about him. There were plenty labelling him a 'coward' last night - which couldn't be further from the truth. He never hides. He keeps trying, even when he's having a stinker.

The lad's a trier - if anything, he tries too hard. He's clearly dealing with a huge psychological block that's going to take a lot of work to shift. I don't think Koeman has found the right recipe yet.

Bravo, well said

Just like if you was watching lallana for the first time, you'd think 'He's definitely gonna score with the next one' but never does.

Well, the same can be said of Barkley with his underhit passes, his indecision to hit a first time pass or shot, his running directly into players, and his attempt to escape a defender....Always it's 'next time'.

I mean, he even tried to blag the referee last night when he ran into one of his own side (Valencia?).

No lad. Time to start getting it right a lot more often than wrong.

Where has this notion come from that he's a delicate snow-flake and you need to be nice to him to get him to play well?

To be brutal, if you are regularly not performing because of psychological rigours then you probably don't have what it takes to be in the top percentile of your profession.

brings a lot of the problems on himself with regards fans reactions.too often he won't do the simple thing, laying off a pass or shooting first time. it's an old cliche, " football is a simple game".IMO he needs to stop trying so hard and be more of a team player.

As soon as the lad makes one error, certain idiot members of the crowd moan and groan then shout abuse. Do they not think this gets to the lad? He clearly has confidence issues!
'But he earns thousands per week and if I was on there blah blah blah'. He is still human and open to all the frailties anyone else can suffer from.

Maybe they should also stop singing 'we've got a diamond' because that's not exactly inspiring him either, is it?

I don't particularly agree with casing him meself, but the lad's gotta take the rough with the smooth, just about everyone else at every other club has had to.

People need to stop defending him. He's stunk the place out for a good three years now: 11 goals in his past 72 games going back into season 2014/15. One goal in seven good enough for a number 10 midfielder? Jordan Henderson (yes, him!) has a better strike rate than Ross, and he's deemed a terrible midfielder on here by our fans. He couldn't turn it on when Martinez was blowing smoke up his arse for two years telling him how good he is, and now he can't turn it on when he's left to his own devices to motivate himself to play well. For all the "the fans ruin him" - balls to that, Liverpool come to Goodison every year and get dogs abuse all game and still bum us. He needs to grow up, learn to ignore the very small minority that are vocal when he makes mistakes (and it IS a small minority) and start performing, or he WILL be the next Jack Rodwell. For now, he needs taking out of the team as he's become a liability. Deulofeu, Mirallas and Bolasie until one of them loses form or gets injured.
