Ross Barkley

This is why Ross's bad performances stand out so much.
Unlike a few other players we have, he still hunts the ball and tries to get into the game instead of hiding when it is not his day.
I thought he really stepped up today.
I hope Ronald makes him skipper again on Tuesday.

Agree mate.
It might seem a bit mad to compare him to Graveson (who was another player that was always willing to take the ball, no matter what) but, he used to get stick aswell, when things didn't always work out (even though he had more of the ball and therefore would make more 'errors').
There was the joke, amongst our own fans, about Real Madrid (Real Madrid ffs) choosing the wrong player, because it should have been Carsley!
Ross, when interviewed, reminds me of Rooney (a bit nervous etc) get him over that hurdle and the confidence levels increase and he could play for Real Madrid.
Don't actually care whether people laugh at that, because it's how good I think he is/could be!

Koeman is the perfect manager for him. He'll literally tell him how it us rather than telling him he's perfect like the previous manager.

Ross took Mondays subsitution and presser comments on board and there was a clear improvement in performance yesterday. He'll be sound our Russ.

Xavi came out a while back saying he could end up at barca

He's not a kid. There are many players who Ross is often compared to or mentioned in the same breath with who had done a whole lot more by the age Barkley is now. Granted, different players develop at different speed, but just putting things into context. Barkley should be be approaching the peak years of his career in the next 5 years, not still thought of as a young and upcoming player. If it's going to happen for our club, then we need Barkley to step up to the plate and become a man, not turn into another Anichebe.

Who do you mean had done more than him at his age? He compares similarly to lampard, Gerard and Scholes at the same age.

Another Anichebe? Are you being serious there??

These are the same people that say sterling, Wilshire, Henderson, rashford and lallana should be winning the euros. I honestly think they write their reports from match of the day highlights.

That's...literally the opposite of how the Guardian writers are. They're easily the most level headed and intelligent football reporters out there (and usually quite tongue in cheek about how daft the rest of them are). I'd really recommend reading them.

I was pleased Koeman put him in the team this week, he deserved to get hauled off at Sunderland but if Ron had made a bigger deal of it and kept him out of the starting 11 it surely would have dented Ross's confidence and I think he is one of those players that needs it more than most.

So taking him off at half time showed that he won't just sit by and watch below par performances but by having a word and putting him back in the team he knows he has the managers trust that he is a top player. Good management I say.

His performance was good and he worked hard but should learn to pass when others are in a better position to score than him. Probably understandable why he was shooting though as he felt he needed a goal to prove his worth. If I was Ron I would be creating situations on the training field where he has to pass to a team mate when in on goal, hopefully with repetition he will learn to make better choices of when to shoot and when to pass.

Yesterday he looked a lot more mature than he has in the pass, he played himself into the game steadily. He kept things simple and done a job.
Koeman, by substituting him and then putting him back in, seems to have played a master stroke in man management.
I would imagine that having played under Martinez were the results were bad and then being told what a wonderful player you were put an awful lot of pressure on his young shoulders. Did he think he had to produce match winning performances every week because it seemed no one else could.
Hopefully now we have changed tactics and results are coming he can relax a bit and not have to feel he has to carry the team. He can concentrate on his own part in the team.
We have a saying in Northern Ireland "He has to grow into himself", in other words we all know how good he is, he just needs to get there.

Furthermore if I was Ron I would incentivise him so he earns £10,000 per assist and £1000 per goal. Nothing changes behaviour like incentivising it.

Good post. 100% spot on !

His reaction was one of the biggest positives from the game.
