Same with McGeady and Niasse I think
McGeady is 29 - if he sits out his contract his career is over. Surely you would have some self-pride?
Hope some lunatic Chinese club owner over there wants them.

He would indeed but I'm not sure he would settle for that. You have to respect that he wants to play games, the lad obviously cares about the right things and not just claiming a wage.
I think a few of the posts on here have been needlessly disrespectful towards him. He was bought to do a job and he did that excellently in his first year. Most players regressed in Martinez's tenure and he alone shouldn't be singled out for that. I still think he has a role to play for us, especially if we get a run in the cups.
Re the comments on his international allegiance, I think that's more an Ale House topic than a football one.
Barry and Gueye wont play every game and he would be excellent cover for these two
Jeepers creepers, some of these guys need to have a good look at themselves.
It is a good job the internet wasn't around in the 80s or Kevin Sheedy would have been libelled as a "Judas" by the busybodies round these parts whom want to dictate to people which country they want to represent at international level when they have a choice.
But here we are, our most solid start in years, sitting in the top four as we enter the first international break and a bit of excitement brewing regarding possible new arrivals in the last few days of the summer transfer window......and the hottest topic on the board is about how bad a player James McCarthy is supposed to be and how he is a "Judas" to Scotland for playing for the Republic instead.
Why do they even care who Jimmy Mac plays for at international level?
It has bugger all to do with them.
Just like Kevin Sheedy choosing to play for Ireland instead of Wales was none of their business either.

Why? Because he chose his family's country ahead of the country he was born in? Kevin Kilbane addressed this point really well in his autobiography, people leave their countries for a multitude of reasons yet still raise their kids according to their own heritage. What is so hard to accept about that?
Had to google that to be honest! Made me laugh. I don't think either of us are qualified to decide who a player plays international football for. I support a player's right to declare for whichever country they are entitled to do so. I qualify that by saying that I only want a player who actually cares about Ireland and does have an alligience to us. Exhibit A being Mark Noble, declared an interest in playing for Ireland and was declined.Using another country Judas to back him up.
SMFH.

Mo is an example although extenuating circumstances granted. German born and raised by Bosnian parents. He is of course entitled to follow his heritage and play for the country in whose culture he was brought up in. I'd rather he plays for a country he affiliates with rather than one he resides in by accident of birth.
It's a small yet very multi-cultural world Goat. But you know it's like Everton at the same time, us supporters want fans who actually care about the jersey they are wearing.
I don't know why Cascarino embarrassed himself by putting that in his book and then being corrected by the FAI that his words were all bubbles. To be honest, no major issue with the likes of Sheedy, Mo or even Kilbane playing for the country of their parents, its when its grandparents it annoys me.
Dont even get me started on Tony Cascarino.

The Irish diaspora is huge and I'm comfortable with the grandparent thing but only if they have a real allegiance to us. I'm not interested in a player who just wants to brag about being an international.
As an aside, Liverpool has always intrigued me in that there is no obvious English allegiance. You all are Scouse first and foremost.
Makes perfect sense, I love Liverpool. I feel as at home in Liverpool as I would in any Irish city.Absolutely spot on.
I am Liverpool born and raised, of Irish parents from Belfast and have never considered myself to be English
I travel on an Irish passport and if I had been any good at football, it would have been the Republic of Ireland I would have played for, not England.
And if anyone thinks I am a wannabee "Judas".......then sue me
"a nation once again.....a nation once again.......".....![]()
As is your wantIm most defo English.
Problem with cleverly is the stupid contract and wages brown shoes gave him !
Maybe but still Brown shoes faultI may be wrong here but I reckon that managers generally are not the ones who negotiate contracts and wages.
I'm puzzled here, I always thought Belfast was in Northern Ireland, so being as proud as you appear, why would you of chosen The Republic of Ireland instead??Absolutely spot on.
