Everton Transfer Thread 2016

There is nothing at all wrong with the business we have done so far. Our academy has added younger players in Holgate, Davies and Dowell into the overall mix and we have Tarashaj as well so I have no problems at all with buying-in more experience.

The concern is the business we have not done.

We definitely need a striker.

It seems most people feel we could use another CB and CM to help us clear out some dead-wood (McCarthy & Cleverley for me are not what we need, others may differ in that view).

Opinions are split on whether we need another GK or go with Stekelenburg.

Similarly opinions split on whether we need another wide/#10 type or if we are good with Deulofeu, Mirallas, Lennon, Bolasie, Barkley & Tarashaj.

If we came out with at least 3 of those needs addressed in the next 6 days then I think the window would be overall positive, albeit a reality check on our current inability to shop in the top quartile of the market.

More than 3 and we would be dour and miserable in the extreme to moan.

Fewer than 3 and there will definitely be question marks over the window as a whole, particularly if we have not replaced Niasse with someone who is an actual footballer.

Think the fact that we were very close on Perez and seemingly have been lining up Gabbiadini as an alternative option for the last week or so indicates that we are very much after another forward mate.

Desperately want to see Gibson, Cleverley, Niasse and McGeady moved on. Thing is, who in their right mind would take them? I fear we'll be lumped with at least three of them.

If we could move those four, perhaps even get some decent money for McCarthy, and then invest in three or maximum four real good players, it'd be the sort of stuff dreams are made of. Just can't see it.

Think we'll shift one of the above-mentioned four, and get in two new players, neither of which are world beaters and likely to vastly improve our first XI.

Prove me wrong Everton.

Yet 5 years later, we have players actively turning down first team football to move to champions league clubs, or at least wait for them.

You're forgetting to factor in that thanks to the last regime we have been tosh for the past two years mate.

I wasn't happy with Moyes towards the end of his tenure, but we were always top 7/8 regulars.

Martinez had turned us into a mid-table side, ultimately.

Koeman has said he wants 3 keepers and 4 CB's. So that's an additional two.

Most of us agree the need for another striker is urgent.

I would also like someone who could give us a little extra creativity and link-up in the centre - most of us agree there too.

So, that's another 4 without being picky, or over-demanding.

Whether the player signed is the 1st or 5th choice in a given position, I assume RK/SW won't sanction it unless they are right for the team, and are considered value for money. Big names, marquee signings, fees, etc etc don't really concern me at all.

It's clear that we have struggled to attract the bigger names. But we are seeking to improve on 11th and there "should" be enough players available and willing to sign up who can help us bridge the gap between where we are and the Europa League places. That, in my view, is not asking too much.

It's probably a case now of how many additional we will get in that for me at least, will prove the benchmark of how the window went.

Another 2 or less for me is not good enough and can be considered a disappointment, 3 and above added to the business already done, and I could say it was a decent, if unspectacular window.

You can write off Saturday and Sunday too as well Sharpy...and probably Bank Holiday Monday.

It's looking like 48 hours to get a job done that we had over three months to complete it in.
Don't worry we'll just sugar coat it and make excuse after excuse for the fact we haven't improved one bit and not spent a penny except money brought in.

#shambles

Forgot about Monday!! They wouldn't dream of paying time and a half for bank holidays so they'll be no one working. lol lol

Not really 'get the job done' though is it Dave?

We've added four, all of whom have so far improved the squad overall for how Koeman wants us to play.

I think that at the beginning of the window the consensus was that we needed 6-8 players in, depending on outgoings obviously.

That's still all very much possible - even though it's later than many of us would have liked.

As I said, I'd be more worried if we hadn't done business or that we were losing ground.

The fact is that we aren't, and none of the teams who we will more than likely be challenging for the 5th - 8th slots this year have massively improved (thus far) - and will all be looking to do business late on.

In fact, the only teams that have done all of their business early are the two Manchester clubs, who ironically enough have the most funds and the two best managers in the world.
