How do you kill an idea? I'm not sure you can. Social media is giving radicals record access to highly impressionable dimwits who in years gone by would've likely just been known as the village idiot, but in this day and age fight and die for a ridiculous 'cause'. No idea what the answer is.
 

You actually cannot stop it.

I am 51, and for all my life there have been nutjobs/freedom fighters/religious extremists (delete at will) trying it on.

The only ones you can stop are those prepared ,eventually. to accept that a political solution is the only way to stop the carnage. Which these islands reached with the IRA. (But stuff still occurs over there)

You cannot defeat terrorism. You cannot defeat a word. All you can do is minimise their impact, via intel mainly, and vigilance.

Any idiotic politician who spouts nonsense that he will end it, (Yes Trump, you, you absolute belter), whilst 1000s of his own "good old Mericans" keep seemingly happily gunning each other down, is deluded, at best. Down right dangerous more like.

I honestly don't think the world is going to take much more of this. I did watch the Trump acceptance speech last night, although the crazy beggar scares me half to death, the approach to terrorism is what's needed.

I think you will find his approach does not stretch to black Americans being killed by police. Sadly the arab world has seen their kids being killed every day since Bush/Blair destabilised the whole region. Extreme behaviour breeds extreme reaction. There is no excuse for Isis and there is none for Bush and Blair. The trouble is that innocent people constantly suffer as a result of these actions.
Trump has already said he would rip up the agreement with Iran, a real move towards stability from Obama. Nobody ever kills their way to long term peace.

Sorry but Bush and Blair did not destabilise 'the Arab region' (what even is that)

Sorry mate but that is the point. It is not a race/ religeous movement. It is terrorism...the whole point is to spread fear and gaining notoriety.

Stop the spread, but as you rightly said.. it's nigh on impossible now.
Have to say....we is [Poor language removed] !!!
Holiday in Bournemouth, Dont let your kids play outside...stay in....watch tv. I cant help feeling that the same people spreading the fear (tv, radio, internet) all have valid reasons to keep you invested.

Few people kill for an idea. Far more people kill because they have a genuine grievance that other people can then latch their idea onto. If we ever want to deal with the problems caused by fundamentalist Sunni Islam, we have to tackle those grievances first.
