James McCarthy

Copied from other forum - apparently in Mail...thoughts??

from the mail:

Stoke City have made enquiries about Everton midfielder James McCarthy. Manager Mark Hughes wants another central midfielder to add energy to his side and has been discussing a £12million move for Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, who is also wanted by Watford and Red Bull Leipzig.

However, Hughes has also checked on whether Republic of Ireland international McCarthy would be allowed to leave Goodison Park.

Ronald Koeman is pushing to sign Axel Witsel from Zenit St Petersburg while Roma's Kevin Strootman and Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho have also been discussed.

McCarthy played through Euro 2016 with a groin injury and struggled for form after a hamstring injury at Everton last season but is still regarded as one of the club's better players.

He was the subject of interest from Tottenham last summer before Bill Kenwright offered him a new contract. He has yet to return to Everton so is unaware of whether he fits into Koeman's plans.

McCarthy won't be sold until Koeman has assessed him in pre-season.

Don't disagree..but if we can get circa 20m(realistic in today's market) then I'd definitely be tempted..especially when the likes of Schneiderlin could be available for a similar fee

All hypothetic of course

Na, bench McCarthy and sell the useless crab we got on a free last summer.

I personally think his confidence was rocked last season. He's got a chance now with a new manager to find the form that he showed in his first season with us, where I personally thought he was excellent

I wasn't sure about McCarthy when he first came here, but he won me over pretty quickly. I'm prepared to see how he does under Koeman before passing judgment. He's proven himself before and I think he'll do it again

I don't want McCarthy to leave but if he does then we'll get good money for him. Think there should be others out of the door first, mind.

Interestingly, Niasse is not available at any price.

You may have stopped reading before the second part of that, where he says "Poss others after this week in Austria". All three of them have been with Everton for years, Niasse has 60 minutes of game tape, so he might want to evaluate him further just to make sure hes rubbish.

You may have missed the joke.
