Transfer Rumour Juan Mata

“He is already, at his age, a key player for Everton,” said the new Blues’ boss. “But he is still young. I am looking forward to working with him and making him a better player and that’s really what we try to do.

“But in the end it’s all about the player himself.

“Of course we will give all the players the support to improve them as individual players.

“It’s still a little bit difficult for me because I need to see him in training to form a 100 per cent opinion about what his best position is. It will be one of the midfield positions, but sometimes players play on the left side or the right side, but he is a vital young player in the Everton team and he will get that support.”

From Koemans interview about 4 days ago mate, completely the opposite of what you have said really isn't it?

Interesting, there was a quote where he said he has to play behind the striker. I'll see if I can find it...

EDIT... "“He is playing the position behind the striker and he is more an offensive midfield player than a defensive midfield player"

I appreciate the Ross-talk is Everton based but stick to Juan Mata in here please lads.

Start a new thread if you wish to discuss Ross' potential role under Ronald.

Isn't discussing the role Barkley plays in the team and its impact on whether Mata is a desirable transfer or not on topic Grouch?

Whilst we are a mid table team, juan mata would be an excellent signing for us.

Until we are in a position to dictate the quality of player we need, you can take a mata who would be available and is talented, or we can just stick with kone/naisse/mcgeady eh? That is the level we are trying to rise from.

Can we though?

People are acting like we're being financed by Abramovich. Moshiri is very, very wealthy... but the owner of Southampton (for instance) is worth three times as much. We are not yet financially up there with Spurs, Utd, City, Arsenal, or the RS... in fact, West Ham and Southampton are financially stronger than us and there's probably a couple of others too. Newcastle, for instance.

We cannot afford to have a dozen players on between £100k and £200k a week.

What? Who said anything about that? Is Juan Mata a dozen players? Newcastle are not financially stronger than us, what a ridiculous thing to say. Neither are Southampton evidently, as they couldn't afford to match the wages we are paying our manager

Mata would be an upgrade to those getting a start in the 11. McCarthy, Barry, Cleverley, Besic easily. Even Barkley on last season's form.

Not the statement signing I would hope for, but a good player and improvement on the average footballers I mentioned above.

Going back to what i have thought all along, the reason we have hired Koeman is to do just this, improve the squad and strengthen it beyond anything we have had before.

If mata comes in then fantastic i think, would have had him at any point before today and with at least 2 more years before he hits 30, should still be a great player for us.

I was also raising the point of signing an alternative to Ross for options, and out of the newcastle lad and Mata, would sign him based on his experience and quality alone.

We are in a position where we have a handful of quality young players ready for first team action. They are the squad players. Every single purchase we make this Summer needs to be as an improvement on our first 11, which has too many overrated footballers by our supporters.
Only quality please.

I agree. I hope to see each player that comes in are both long term signings and improve the team at the same time without paying lip service to the ones already there besides lukaku who will be first choice anyway if he stays.

If you want a perfect example, manchester city. They do not have silly wages there on the whole (mostly under 100k) and over 6 months brought in nasri/silva/aguero/toure/kompany/zalbaletta. All first team players still in some capacity or another years later because they were all signed with that vision for them. Sign best you can get and plan for the long term with them.

Obviously mata is the exception to this but we need to start somewhere in improving the team.

Good post mate. I agree with all that.

Moshiri is listed in the Sunday Times rich list mate. He's worth £1.4bn, give or take. We can make educated guesses as the amount of his own personal fortune he's going to sink into the club.
And that's very conservative, I've seen reports double that. They're not going to know his true wealth
