Our starting 11 lacks quality in certain areas, nevermind the squad.

We have no natural left winger and no natural number 8 in the entire squad, could even be very unkind and suggest the GK is lacking somewhat as well.

keeper, left winger, a proper centre mid (not one who only play defensive or attacking etc but an all rounder) is needed for the starting 11 really

depth wise - need a striker, another cb (especially with Koeman liking to play 3 at the back), probably another centre mid or a top drawer defensive mid and an attacking mid with some creativity and a bit of guile about him

Only positions that can say we don't need someone would be the fullbacks - if we go with Kenny as colemans backup and at right wing...

Gonna be a long summer and interesting

Wouldn't be shocked to see us try to get Blind from United actually, can fill in defensive mid, cb and fullback - is dutch and likely won't feature in Mourinhos plans youd have to think

thank you we need new CB even with stones go get someone like van dijk and have mori / jags backup

GK new number one left winger and need a few more strikers

Well maybe not the thread, but if we retain Stones, personally dont see the need for 4 CBs in the squad, not with the likes of Galloway, Holgate and a few others waiting for a chance.

surely thats our goal? highly doubt he will spend 50 mil probably closer to 100 the is too much dead wood

Our goal should be to improve (massively) on what we currently have, we may be able to attract 1 top quality signing, don't think we will have a team full of 'superstars' after this window shuts because we won't.

It's most definitely should be where we aim but it's not going to be done in one season (or not very likely).

Just a bit of realism wouldn't go a miss like.

The main thing is getting rid of the utter, utter tosh we have in the squad, Kone, Niasse, McGeady, im looking at you.

Not quite sure that you do. I think Esk has explained it quite well. It is not needed in order to fund transfers but in order to increase wages, we need to increase revenue in order to able to increase the wage bill.

I hate FFP. It has been designed in a way that really protects those investments which were made before it was enforced. The fact that we're talking about having to sell a star player to generate an increase in revenue to facilitate being able to grow the wage bill by more than the value of Koeman's wages is a joke. I understand the underlying theory that it will lead to clubs growing organically and sustainably but it really does make it harder for any club trying to catch up with the big boys.

Based off of what Esk has said and my own understanding of the accounting I would expect Niasse to stay but the other two to go if we can get rid. The only reason Niasse will stay is out of hope that he would be more valuable after a year of Premier League experience rather than him undeniably being seen as a flop if he is sold after 6 months. Further to that, we will have already written off the majority of what Kone and McGeady cost us to bring in via the method of depreciating player asset values over the courses of the contract. McGeady wasn't brought in for much so we wouldn't take a big revenue hit even if we let him go for nothing and we would gain the space in the wage bill. Kone's contract was due to end this season before Martinez triggered his extension clause and so I imagine his transfer fee will have been completely written off so if we get any sort of fee for him then that increases the revenue total and also clears him off the wage bill.

Kone, Naisse and McGeady i have no argument with at all - actively moaned about all 3 before we signed them as not being good enough i think.

Also would add Cleverley and one lennon on that list mate, we don't need 3 right wingers - especially when Lennon looks terrible anywhere besides on the right compared to Deulofeu and Mirallas who both can switch effectively, and Cleverley - sorry but just don't see what he is, he's not a left sided mid, hes not a holding mid, not an atatcking mid not good enough to play bang in the centre, he's just one of those players who is equally mediocre in several positions so tends to become a favourite as he can fill in for 3-4 spots

Kone - 30k? Naisse probably something like 50k, McGeady - go knows but say 35k? Lennon - 40-50k? Cleverley - think i read he's on 60k, a lot of wages that could be put to better use their

Rather have the likes of Dowell or Davies filling the bench than the likes of Cleverley or Lennon really

Lennon was one of our best players last season

Freeing up the wages is as important as getting a fee really, thats gonna be the cockblock on us spending 100-150m or whatever we supposedly have

Naisse would be well better served for us to loan him out and hope to get his wages covered, honestly if we try to stop him being seen as a flop by playing him then all we will do is confirm any doubters that he indeed is useless and be stuck with him 100% for the next 5 years and meanwhilst hurt our performances on the pitch as he really is utterly useless

Lennon was one of our best players last season

He played well for the first 7-8 games he came into the first team for mate, not arguing that, after that initial bit of form though he was just as poor as everyone else from the Arsenal game onwards, and he was utter rubbish anytime he got played centrally or on the left as well, actually his impact mirrored the first season on loan with us - made a great impact when he first got games then faded badly afterwards - maybe more a reflection of his true ability level.

Deulofeu out performed him massively if you take the season as a whole and one is 22 with his best years ahead of him and the other is 29 and was deemed by spurs (rightly so) as not good enough for where they aimed for.

Barry was probably one of the players of the season for us mate, doesn't mean i am not seriously hoping we look at upgrading on him this summer.

Quick check on Lennon - Last 12 games of the season he played - no goals - no assists, all his production came in that brief spell after he replaced Deulofeu mate

Osman, Pienaar, and Hibbo going has given us at least 100k/week to play with plus ~135,000/week from the allowed 7 million pounds growth.

That's about 235,000 pounds total to play with.

Kone and McGeady will be on close to 80,000 pounds/week between the two of them as well that we could free up if we get rid.

So we could potentially have approximately 300,000 pounds a week of wage budget to allocate between new signings and new contracts for Barkley, Stones, and Lukaku.

EDIT: I forgot Howard's wages as well so there's another 40,000/week

I'd seriously look to throw Naisse on loan - turkey or russia (dont think anyone would buy him right now) - or hope to god china want him, get shut of cleverley as he just isnt good enough on any level and seriously think if we need 3 right wingers who are all good enough to attract offers for
