Torn on De Boer

On one hand, you'd think he's exactly what we need. An ambitious manager looking to make a reputation

On the other hand, should we be looking at more of a proven guy at this point?

Martinez was an experiment that didn't work out. Should we be so quick to attempt another one so soon?

At least with someone like Loew, he's won the biggest thing you can possibly win in International Football, while also giving youth a chance in the process.

For me, I think we should at least explore Loew as next manager. Put an offer in and see what he thinks. If he turns us down, he turns us down, but we should at least talk to him IMO

Out of the ones already mentioned, I'd probably go Pellegrini, Koeman and De Boer in that order, but there isn't much in it

Pellegrini would likely have us doing well in the Cup and probably in the European hunt, but it's not as if his sides defend that much better than Martinez's

I think we need a manager who can organise a defence and still have the team playing some nice football. That's Jogi for me
I would love Loew. The problem is he probably won't want to announce anything till after the Euros. I'd genuinely fear for the sanity of our fans if we had to wait till July to hear who our manager is.

Obviously the club could hold talks and agree a deal before then. However I think it would be necessary to make some kind of announcement along the lines of ''We have a deal in place with one of the top managers in world football and will unveil him in July''.

Some on here would probably hit the bleach thinking it was Hodgson.

Maybe, yeh.

Emery is a good manager - I've no doubt in that.

However, for me he's a manager that is excellent at operating on a sell-to-buy basis and getting the best out of players who were bought cheap and he turns them into very good players (Carrico) - or players that had the talent but not the consistency to be at a 'massive' club (Gameiro, Banega). To me that's what makes him a fit for Everton but it also seems very familiar to how Moyes was.

While Emery is not afraid to give youth a chance (Rico), I don't see him as a manager who could get the best out of the young players we have currently, however, and that's why I'd lean towards Koeman if he did indeed want the move, or De Boer - as both would sustain the good things RM put in place, though I'm not overly convinced on De Boer either.

Just my opinion, like.

I don't know enough about Emery to comment really, but ideally I'd want someone who would be prepared to give the youth a chance

I'd like a manager who would use Mr Moshiri's money to make 2 or 3 big signings while also promoting from the youth set up at the same time

If that isn't Emery's style, I'm not sure I'd want him

Agree Mikey.

We'll see. Given the money Emery may well be the man - there's no doubt he's a very good manager - just not sure if he's the right one for us at this time.

You could announce it in advance to be fair

United did that with LVG during the 2014 World Cup for instance

What if the youth isn't good enough?

Not saying they're not. I haven't seen enough and Unsworth think a few are.

But if the new manager doesn't think they're good enough then that's that.

It's a balance.

Martinez indulged too much, Emery not enough.
It could also just be a maturity thing. Deulofeu may have just needed to have grown up a bit before he was receptive of what he was being told. You could tell in his interviews this season he knew Martinez was right for dropping him so Martinez's longer strategy was probably working. That's why a sell with a buy back made more sense for everyone - which we need to get out of.

However Deulofeu is now 22 and going into his 4th season. Next year hopefully will be a big year for him but both Barkley and Deulofeu need a stronger manager. Primary School is over. lol

Pellegrini in 13/14 played some of the best attacking football I've seen in the prem, up there with anything Ferguson or Wenger has produced. First half of that season they were sensational blowing teams away. Then, under huge pressure they held their nerve and won 5 on the spin to win the league. Playmakers like Silva Toure Nasri with overlapping full backs, they were a joy to watch. Even in that game at Anfield which his critics like to bring up, they wiped the floor with a very good Liverpool team for the majority of the game. Even as late as the start of this season City were beating the champions Chelsea with ease. It's perfectly understandable to see that injuries, focus on the champions league, key players losing form, and of course the announcement that he was going, derailed their league season. Ultimately he lost Silva De Bruyne and Toure for a whole chunk of the second half of the season. Where might they have finished if they had remained fit? I think he would be a fantastic manager for us, he would deliver a great brand of football, represent the club fantastically, be loyal (doubtful at his age he'd be using us as a stepping stone which Koeman or De Boer might for Barca) and deliver trophies as well as performing well in Europe.

I was in the Jose camp, but once that ship sailed I think Pellegrini is the stand out choice followed by Emery. Experience wise, stature in the game, brand of football, he is a level above De Boer and Koeman.

Thing is, the Euro's are basically 'in the way' for us and any rebuilding programme.

Manager and player recruitment that is.
As Mikey says 2 posts down we could actually announce the manager even if it was someone like Loew. I think most fans would accept the fact that player recruitment would probably have to wait to a large degree. Not knowing who'll be doing that recruiting is driving some crazy already.

How many years would we get out of him though at this point in his career?

If we get, say, 3 years from Koeman because he takes the Barca job or 3 years from Pellegrini because he wants to retire, does it make much of a difference?

That's their job to be honest. That's what they should be doing.

You'd think him getting a job like Real Madrid or Man City these days would mean he's pretty decent at it.
Not everyone is cut from the same cloth though are they? Some in their very nature find it hard to be motivational, some just don't have it in them.

Maybe this is one area which stops Pellegrini going from a good manager, to being one of the great managers?

Perhaps he has other areas he excels in. Maybe he's a very good tactician, maybe he's a great man manager who is great at putting his arm around struggling players.

Every coach has strengths and weaknesses.

I also did say that maybe his demeanour in public is misleading and perhaps he is a good motivator.

What I did say was that he APPEARS to not be very good at it.

At least it's not blindingly obvious to me.

Just watched a clip from the Derby that a red put up on Facebook.

My God how bad have we been? The players were being told clearly keep their position in defence so 2 rows of 4 players were not even being told to check the Liverpool players. It was that embarrassing, Liverpool moved about and the defenders held their position even if starring or whoever moved elsewhere.
