Fans who don't "get" our club

So who does get the club? Blind optimists? I get that fans should believe and hope for the team, but at the bare minimum that should have some two way street element.

Always convenient for the older generation who grew up bathed in success to complain about the younger generation who have not experienced ONE day in the sun as an Evertonian for 20 years. Also convenient for them to forget throwing cushions on the pitch and daubing Kendall out on Bellefield wall.

You're taking the odd minority of fans and throwing ridiculous assertions around about a generation as a whole.

Not sure if this is a recent thing or just social media etc makes it more noticable but it seems to me a good chunk of our fanbase has no concept of what it means, or traditionally meant, to be an Evertonian. The old "School of Science" worked two ways. Not only were our team techinically gifted but the fans were knowledgable and sensible. We left the stupid banners and cringy songs to the mutants across the park and actually went for a football match not a circus.

Everton fans are supposed to be grounded, smart, with a strong sense of tradition of all things Blue. That includes being winners by the way. We used to win stuff you know.

So when I see people advocating Rafael (RS darling who called us "a small club"), Moyes (did a wonderful job initially then back stabbed us after he left - remember how we should have let Baines leave for his own good?) I wonder do they actually "get" Everton at all?

Like wise on the last poll there were a huge number of peopel wanting Bilic in - the man who screwed our club over by feigning injury and costing us a fortune only to be magically cured when his contract was torn up.

Surely no real Evertonian wants any of those people given the honour of running our club?

There is more to it than just wanting anyone in charge.

Look at how Bobby, an awful manager but by all accounts a lovely man, is being treated. We have had people abusing the manager while he was out with his wife, referring to him as "scum" amongst other insults on this very website that used to be better than that.

Not to mention those who wanted us to lose games just so he would get sacked quicker.....

A while ago some people here were patting the kopite "heroes" on the back after they snuck into the away end. Ridiculous. When did being a lad and a trying to appear to be hard case be more important than being a true blue who detests everything about their club?

I could go on but I think you get the idea. Maybe I'm out of touch (Im in my 40s, old enough to have seen us win stuff in the 80s and the witnessed the full horror of most of what happened after) but it really does seem like many fans just dont get what this noble club is (or should be) about.

I get our club. I get that it's run very badly and this is making loads of blues feel a bit crap. I think all those blues feeling crap get the club in the same way, but probably show it in different ways as people are like that.

Sometimes when I play Fifa online with my other Geordie mates, when we're not talking about our ace tattoos or tinder matches, I worry that they don't have the spirit of the club at heart.

The divide between the fan base in terms of "whose a bigger/better fan" and if you support the manager or not is all rather crass. Can we get back to just enjoying the football some point? Cheers.

it's a bit holier-than-thou this thread...we're all blues and we all get Everton, we just show our disappointment in different ways. That's it, really.

It's happening on Twitter/Facebook too. The amount of comments with the phrase "Part of the problem" to any fan who dare not agree with the way in which another shows their disappointment or anger to a result.

I've given up being arsed. I've gotten angry and fumed, just not the way.

aye...i guess that's how the holier-than-thous show their disappointment: bigging up their own Evertonian credentials by talking down those of other blues.

We all have our ways of dealing with the crap on the pitch.

I get a bit sick of all the sniping at Kenwright to be honest. Sure, he hasn't put the money in that people would have liked, or found somebody quicker who has?

But so what?

I tell you what, I met the bloke in the late '90s, when I was sat next to him in a small theatre, and I had a good long chat about Everton with him. I can tell you now, the man is the most genuine, dyed-in-the-wool blue you could hope to meet. It was patently obvious that he CARED.

So what would you have rather had in? Some foreign asset-stripper who'd come in and rape the club before doing one? Maybe some guy who didn't know where Goodison was a few years ago, let alone dancing in the fountain after the '68 FA Cup final.

Whatever the shortcomings of Mr Kenwright, he's never tried to make a fast buck by selling us out to some fly-by-night shyster.

He's one of us. A lifelong blue. And I respect him for it and will thank him for his service when he does go.

He might be the biggest bestest blue in the world, but we haven't won anything under him.
That's what counts more in my book, his failure to find investment for a already undercapitalised club throughout his tenure really harmed Everton.
