Fans who don't "get" our club

If you want to talk about people who don't 'get' our club, look no further than the board. If they understood what Everton are about, Martinez would not be Everton manager right now and the vitriol from the fans disappears.
true enough, if toad features kenwright was on here he would post like steve wigan or mkrudden

Very true, have only supported Everton FC since 1995 cup win, in which I went against Blackburn rovers at Wembley in the charity shield. Most of us have seem some good games and watched the fa cup win on to as a youngster, but have not seen league title wins or European success, although in the Europa a few years ago was good to see the blues back and playing in Europe!!

Was too young to fully enjoy 95. Knowing that we were a generally poor side anyway and it would be a one off takes a bit of the shine off it as well.

Since then my best moment as an Evertonian is Jagielka scoring a pen against United after a 0-0 draw against their B team (who had bossed us) to get us to a final which we also lost.

I can count the number of Derby victories on one hand. Ditto with European tours (the worst Liverpool side in prem history went past our 'great runs' of 07/08 with ease this season). Best players continually sold, barely a win at any big grounds, boards picking an amateur hour manager and now seeing Leicester win the league in a season we've not even got top half.

Yet after putting up with what has frankly been an utter disgrace for close to twenty years, as soon as you pipe up with sentiments about wanting the club to be better, a queue forms of people only too happy to call you an over entitled Geordie, apparently saying nothing and waiting and seeing for another five years is the Everton way and they know best. Easy to say when you spent the best years of your life watching some of the best sides in the country sweep all before then with genuine world class players under genuine world class managers. Effectively you're asking the younger generation to put up with a man who should be in the championship trying to manage a group of average players and just to wait and see patiently.

Wasn't good enough for you back then so please less of the patronisation now. Nil Satis then, Nil Satis now, Nil Satis always.

You don't get it mate do you? NSNO is what the club is about. There are just ways and means of expressing it

How many people are you going to accuse of not getting it?

Take a look through our history. Banners? Yes. Planes? More than any other side. Writing on walls? Yes. Throwing pillows? Yes. Times have changed, but Evertonians demanding success hasn't. Nothing cringey about wanting success for your club. The world has changed, you can't keep pretending that the things that worked in the 80s work now.

You just seem to be arguing about things I didnt say. Would you want Benitez or Bilic as manager?

You opened your post by knocking fans who used banners and chanted against Martinez. I'm arguing against that. These are not new behaviours for Everton fans.

I'd want neither. If fans did want them though, so what? They're both a country mile better than what we have now. I want the best manager available to manage Everton because I want us to win the highest number of games possible. If the best manager available is Benitez or Bilic then I frankly would not give two stuffs who they had managed before or what they did 20 years ago in their playing career.

Not sure if this is a recent thing or just social media etc makes it more noticable but it seems to me a good chunk of our fanbase has no concept of what it means, or traditionally meant, to be an Evertonian. The old "School of Science" worked two ways. Not only were our team techinically gifted but the fans were knowledgable and sensible. We left the stupid banners and cringy songs to the mutants across the park and actually went for a football match not a circus.

Everton fans are supposed to be grounded, smart, with a strong sense of tradition of all things Blue. That includes being winners by the way. We used to win stuff you know.

So when I see people advocating Rafael (RS darling who called us "a small club"), Moyes (did a wonderful job initially then back stabbed us after he left - remember how we should have let Baines leave for his own good?) I wonder do they actually "get" Everton at all?

Like wise on the last poll there were a huge number of peopel wanting Bilic in - the man who screwed our club over by feigning injury and costing us a fortune only to be magically cured when his contract was torn up.

Surely no real Evertonian wants any of those people given the honour of running our club?

There is more to it than just wanting anyone in charge.

Look at how Bobby, an awful manager but by all accounts a lovely man, is being treated. We have had people abusing the manager while he was out with his wife, referring to him as "scum" amongst other insults on this very website that used to be better than that.

Not to mention those who wanted us to lose games just so he would get sacked quicker.....

A while ago some people here were patting the kopite "heroes" on the back after they snuck into the away end. Ridiculous. When did being a lad and a trying to appear to be hard case be more important than being a true blue who detests everything about their club?

I could go on but I think you get the idea. Maybe I'm out of touch (Im in my 40s, old enough to have seen us win stuff in the 80s and the witnessed the full horror of most of what happened after) but it really does seem like many fans just dont get what this noble club is (or should be) about.

Would you have Rooney back though mate.

I guess the cushion throwing, Peter Johnsons car getting jumped on, the hounding of smith n walker n Kendal prior the glory days never happened then. I'm sure there are more incidents, it isn't new behaviour. At least it's not like the 80's when hooliganism was rife, much rather people vented on social media.
