I had tears in my eyes today. I knew sacking Martinez would have been a needed boost. Hurt so bad today. When will we ever have an opertunety like that.

I think almost to a man and woman, Evertonians were unanimous that Bobby should have been relieved of his duties after the perfirmance against Saints.

It was the only way we were going to get a boost going into what has now surpassed April '71 as the most depressing 72 hours in Everton history (in my lifetime anyway).

That he was left in situ is the fault of one man.....Bill Kenwright.

Because as the rest of us saw the wheels coming off, Bill was gushing "what a manager".

I stated earlier this week that I would not be fuming at Martinez if we lost at Wembley......every last one of us knew what was going to happen.

I am fuming at Bill and the board who will now sack Bobby in the next day or two when really they should be apologising to the great mass of Evertonians who knew instinctively they should have acted last weekend.

It us just a total mess and if I thought I could, I would wash my hands of this club right here and now.

If today's result really does mean the end for Martinez, his replacement will, hopefully, be a manager who can take the club to another level and with our new financial security, many opportunities may lie in the not too distant future. Every cloud an' all that ;).

Make me feel better mate.

Initial thoughts, is he going? I'd hate to think a half decent 45 minutes is going to sway him to stay. We still lost.

Also, I'd like to ask you about a possible new manager. For me Martinez changed a hell of a lot at Everton. Some good. A lot bad. From the style of play, to the pictures on the walls at Finch Farm. For me it won't be easy for any new manager to come in and fix it in a swift manor.

Just interested in your opinion.

Spot on as always mate.

Good article, although I think it's generous to give him credit for the second half today (even if it's only implied) don't think for a second it was anything to do with him.

We need a strong message to be sent out to any potential replacements too. Don't want them stepping into GP thinking our standards are where they've been in recent years.

It started of so well, I remember that game against Arsenal in December when Deulofeu was sprung from the bench and scored the equaliser, soon after we won at old Trafford against our former manager. It was a new look Everton full of attacking intent and backboned by young flair players who could only get better.

Alas it was not to be....

These young players if they decide to stay need discipline, a manager who isn't afraid to be ruthless, they have all regressed in the last 2 years.

If Moshiri is going to invest serious money into the playing staff I don't want Roberto in charge of the cheque book. It would be best if he was relieved of his duties immediately so the next manager could be identified. I'd put Unsworth in charge and go with a few of the young lads for the next 4 games, give them a taste of the premier league, I couldn't be looking at Osman and the likes getting game time towards the end of season.

The lads going to the Euro's will be minding themselves for injuries, Dowell, Davies, Connelly etc will make the last 4 games interesting.

Excellent as always Esk and I sincerely hope we see in the next 48 hours the new structure flex their muscles and do the right thing.

Failure to do so will leave them open to criticism because I think a lot of us ( and I include you in this ) are sitting here thinking we would have won that game today and put in a better effort with a lollipop lady at the helm than Martinez.

We gifted Utd that win without even kicking a ball, just like we gifted the RS 3 points without a drop of sweat hitting the turf. Why? Because we let Martinez take charge of a situation he hasn't been able to manage and hasn't been in control of for a long time.

If this rolls into next week, the board should be held accountable for sitting on their hands and letting this happen.

I will take today's defeat as them giving him a last chance, a gentleman's agreement perhaps. That's gone, just as he should be within the next 48 hours so we can all start looking ahead.

Absolutely, really see no reason why he can't/won't be sacked by Monday at the very latest. This last week was defining for Martinez in the eyes of many, the next 48 hours equally so for the new regime. They cannot stick their heads in the sand any longer, its insulting and dare I say distressing to very many blues.

Totally agree, just as today's game ultimately was one of missed chances, our whole season has been one of missed opportunities, such a waste, such an opportunity to move on, even prior to Moshiri arriving, it makes my blood boil. You never know in life or business whether a missed opportunity will come your way again, hence you must grab it when it presents itself - we have failed spectacularly in doing that.

More from Phil Jagielka: "There was stuff said at half time. We knew we were still in game and had the best two chances in the first half but couldn’t put them away.

"When Man United have something to defend and we have nothing to lose it changes. We had chances but couldn’t take them and then couldn’t keep them out at the other end." What does this mean? Player revolt?!
