As i said earlier in theory the formation and players do work. Having Ross, Del and lennon moving the ball quckly to a direct lukaku with 6 players to soak up pressure, that works. McCarhy is good defensive player, barry apparently is as well.

But how can you have 8 months of not playing a left side midfielder, nor sign one at any point and then wonder why tactically the team is struggling? Its a bit like playing one centre half and wondering why your defense seems to look weak.

I have noticed one thing that is missing completely is the drive of the team. Watch watford and palace in particular, if not united and arsenal. we had it last against west ham and after that, it just vanished. when we win the ball, there is no urgency or anyone to drive the ball up pitch like we used to. the ball seems to move up like on the training ground, like the emphasis is give the ball to rom and he can score, not matter where he is or how many defenders are in front of him.

Im probably rambling on a tangent typing thoughts here but if they make sense, great.

...that's it Ash. That's his PLAN A.

There is no PLAN B.

And people wonder why he's pissed off and flailing his arms.

He's a confident and talented young man who's now little more than a grossly mis-managed commodity.

And we'll miss him SO badly when he's gone.

But NIASSE might be fit then so not all bad eh...

*sighs

Martinez:
“You have to perform well before you go to a semi-final. You can’t just say: ‘OK, let’s switch it on. We are going to play well.’ It doesn’t work like that. You have to create a competitive nature in every game you go into.”

We're in trouble so

I've only heard that when watching Luther

Is it actually true

Oh yes.

There is a BBC documentary about him, from the early 70s.

He is interviewed by Rusell Harty or one of those other big meejah types of the era.....and he says that is how he sometimes comes up with the strange lyrics to his songs :)

They actually played the clip on TV a good few times in the days after his death earlier this year.

the funny thing was at the first half of the season, the team was geared towards supporting him. Kone's job was to give him the ball further up the pitch, Del was tasked with creating for him. It was working, he was scoring goals and it made the team look good.

Then when the defensive issues seemed to hit home, he seemed to have changed the attack to try and compensate this, but by putting players too far up the pitch to be able to do it. Granted celverley is more solid on the left than kone, but its around the area that we are weak in defense, not the half way line.

I also think its funny when we play the likes of osman that the praise he gets on match day is something else lacking, playing the simple ball rather than looking to be a hero. same as gibson, his praise is playing the ball forward, which McCarthy and Barry lack in the team.

...for all his faults like but do you recall years ago, under MOYES, you'd actually get players kinda moaning (in a nice way like) in the press about the training, d'ya remember? Players saying it was tough etc, that it was 'hard work' when he'd have them running the beach pre-season, all that jazz...numerous stating that if they didn't get something in training then it was gone over and over and over 'til they DID get it. That they were often called in for extra's etc....

They were well-drilled, defence-savvy and if they weren't hitting the mark fitness wise then they weren't in the squad 'til they were (odd occasion aside)...

Don't hear much of that now do we? The manager spends pre-season on TV, senior players openly admit there is little defensive work going on at FF and we've got 13.5 million quids worth of abject averageness on the bench despite the fact he's allegedly 'not fit'.

Fingers crossed for AUGUST though eh, he'll be ready then it seems....Goooooooooo OUMAaaaaarrrr.

I'll state again why he's on the bench, via good authority, he's on the bench as a complete 'face-saver' for BOB because he's bought an utter, absolute dud. Not the kids fault like (Kid...he's abaaaaar 46) but the excuses are insulting...

It gets more farcical by the day.

Its not like he has been playing in some footballing backwater. hes an international player who was playing at a high standard. he may not fit in with how we play (which is a scary thought....) but its not like we are dealing with George Weah's "cousin" here either.

Whilst I now concede it's highly likely he will be gone in the summer, I don't believe we are actively looking for replacements in the background nor that Roberto has been told.

It's the most important period regarding a potential trophy we've had in years and I very much doubt a businessman as astute as Moshiri would risk the squad/management/anyone in the club/press rocking the boat.

I may be being naive but as I say, I don't believe it's happening under the nose of the manager on the eve of a cup semi.

If we lose on Saturday then I can see the process being started

You are being naive mate.

Teams always and I mean always are looking at options to replace their manager as soon things are going as badly as they are with us.

Now that does not mean they'd take the option of getting a new manager, but you always have to be ready to do what's neeed its a business end of the day.

I'd be very surprised if we haven't spoken to a few managers agents and sounded them out already .
