Not seeing this great youth policy tbh. Like everything else seems to talk a good game but fail to deliver. What players have been brought through from our academy? 45 mins for pennington? A couple of games at right back for browning when there was no other choice due to injuries.

I wasn't talking about who has come through since Martinez has been in charge - that would be more a result of the setup before he arrived anyway. The fruits of long term planning are what we will see in the next few years. Obviously some loans won't work out, like Garbutt, and not all players will make it at the top level, but if the planning for the youth as a whole is good and a long term view is taken then there will be more prospects reaching their potential in the future.

Ah, I'm assuming you meant two years ago. Which is astounding when your think about it because I think we still conceded damn close to 50 goals that season. So in those remaining 21 matches where we didn't keep a clean sheet we conceded an average of 2.38goals per match.
08-09 is the year I'm thinking of. I don't think Howard has ever been a great keeper under RM, but during the best years of Moyes he was in the top 3-4 keepers in the league for me.

Just watched Match Of Day and after our game I'm sure I heard the Watford manager saying the semi final had become a major distraction and it was hard to get them competitive in the league. It's one excuse after another and Martinez should go.

Except for the fact we've been playing like sewage since November, long before we were ever in an FA Cup semi final

The whole thing is frustrating to me as I really like the way under Martinez that the younger players are taken care of and given time in the lower leagues, and there seems to be more integration between the planning of the first team and the youth sides. I had visions of creating a production line of young talent to rival anyone. The plans for Finch Farm seem great as well and I think the manager has put a lot of thought and planning into the long term growth and development of the club.

If he can't get results where it counts then I agree it's probably time to go but it would be a shame if the next manager was someone who took less of an interest in the long term future of the club and the development of young players.

Which is why he needs to find a club where he can act as a director of football and not the first team manager. His vision for how to make an entire club great is clear and seems to be a modern adaption of La Masia. His loyalty to that vision is what is needed to make a great academy and change the culture of expectation here. Sadly, when it comes to the challenges of reacting to immediate challenges of first team management his loyalty to his vision is a giant flaw.
While I very much want to see the back of ole Brown Shoes as manager, I can't say I would be opposed to him in our club in a different capacity. I like him, but he isn't the man to manage the team.

Phew. I was dangerously close to having my own opinion then. Thank God you were here to give me all those facts about how good players are and save me from embarrassing myself.

It's a forum for Christ sake. You posted, I responded, you responded, I responded and then you have the audacity to come out as the Satirical Lord of Darkness and tell me that it's just an opinion?

I've never seen anything so pathetic in my life. If you don't like debate, don't post your opinion on a forum and don't reply when people put their two pence in. Jesus wept, grow a spine.

Similar to something I said above...Director of Football whether it is with us or another club - good point
