Setting aside the reasons for our poor run, after reading Martinez's comments regarding Baines and his interview a few questions sprung to mind:

1. Is Baines a respected, well-liked and highly thought of individual by other players in the dressing room?
2. Is what he said a fair and honest portrayal of the current situation?
3. Was Baines just in making such remarks to the press?
4. Is Martinez a respected, well-liked and highly thought of manager by his players in the dressing room?

If the answer is yes to the first two, then I think by chastising Baines (be that publicly or in private) Martinez may risk alienating more people.

Subsequently, if players who've said yes to the first two also believe answer to the third question is yes, then I think four will answer itself.

Aspects of the interview for me stunk of desperation, division and with regards to Martinez, an alienation from the true situation at hand.

We can only surmise what the players think from what we see and hear, but if it's even slightly akin to the feelings of then fans then... well...

... I just don't think think we've got a completely happy camp. Putting the boot in to a semi-professional may not help that.

The questions are a little weak and seem contrite

Just ask him the questions that need to be asked like how bad the season has been BEFORE Baines made his comment
Baines at least said something that made sense rather then spinning a yarn about the character and spirit the squad while Roberto just delivers a load of verbal brown stuff

Some of my questions

We need him to be asked like if he was the chairmen or a supporter would he be concerned and if not why ?
With the expectations at the club why have you failed in the league this season and the last ?
Have you been happy with you tactical performances this season especially in the 2nd half of games ?
If you were Mr Morshri would you make a change in the summer given how results have gone ?

My last question would be

Why don't you just do one Roberto ?

Instead we are talking about Baines then him

If Baines was misquoted then why would he need to apologise to anyone?

Surely Martinez should be slating the Echo for presenting Baines' words out of context or not in full form if that was the case.

How's your ankle Leighton? ... Okay mate see you in a few weeks.

lol lol

My thinking is that Martinez will be given money this summer and with a specific mandate of player type to sign for bigger amounts (similar to how he has been buying already a group of u25 players). I think Moshiri will have taken advice on the values of players bought in as well and see a mini-Wenger approach.

Then i think the target next season will be top 6. Less than that like 7th would be accepted as long as we reached Europe....otherwise hes sacked.

Following season a push for top 4 after a couple of larger signings as cherries on top of the team.

I keep harping on about the squad, but i really believe thst with a top keeper/central midfielder and left winger at the beginning of this season we would be far higher up the league. Now its apparent also that others have improved or regressed and we need more than just those 3 players.

Is it martinez fault he didnt bring these players in?perhaps but last summer he spent the money on Deulofeu, lennon and mori and this summer hes again playing catchup just the same as when distin went downhill.

He needs money to spend.

I may be wrong on this but I'm sure they said in the Everton Podcast on the Echo site the other night that he's spent £100m already, and you want to give him more?? It's a bit of a fallacy that he's ace in the transfer market, for every Lukaku there's a Kone, for every Besic there's a McGeady, Funes Mori an Alcaraz! Throw enough mud at the wall some of it sticks!!
Where he does appear to do well re transfers is the younger players, Galloway, Holgate, Tarashaj etc, but realistically how many of them will eventually make the step up? What worries me is where we will be if and when then do!
Time wise he has now had nearly three years and is taking Everton backwards at a rate of knots, he has also spent pretty good money and you want to give him more of both??
Sorry but for me its Taxi for Roberto I'm afraid!

Chastising? Wow. He said he'd apologised and realised as a professional he has to choose how he says things more carefully.
There is no sign that he then caned him or even sent him home with no supper
That's your opinion, however I perceived a different message behind the scenes due to words chosen, tone of voice and body language.

Expect to take responsibility... words that 'may not be right'.... explaining how he should speak on the pitch... stressing his experience...

If it were a misunderstanding of words then why not stress what Baines actually meany? Why not get Baines himself to clarify his opinion?

To me, he was critical that Baines had spoken out out of turn and that Martinez disagrees with what was said. Lots of others do not though.

You've said he might of upset the players and apologised to both them and Bobby. I'm saying he's not had to apologise to the players cause they agree with him. He told the truth mate and it has set him free.
Sorry. Not sure what any of that means. Sounds a little too biblical for me. His quotes were about the players. What has set him free exactly?
