I've always been astonished at how we went from being the talk of the Prem, knocking on the door top 4, playing great football, to where we have been the last two seasons.

You've got Neville and Carra lording him here.

I remember in that first season I nicknamed him The Submaster, after Moyes's dithering and negative ways in games, Martinez would make subs early, sometimes double subbing early in the 2nd half and the players coming on would have direct involvement in us wining or playing better.

Now you look at his game management and it's a shadow of what it was in that first season.

I think the end is nigh for him, if it was not for the FA Cup Semi he could have been sacked with another bad game in the Prem.

It's a shame because I like the fella, but he just looks so out of his depth right now and the players are looking like they've had enough, they've lost belief in his methods, and you can't blame them looking at the shocking form and results this season.

That Arsenal game in that video was 2 years ago tomorrow..

The anti-Howard stuff made anything seen so far from the anti-Martinez camp seem like kindergarten stuff. People made their feelings very clearly known by both their actions, and probably more importantly, the fact that they stopped going to Goodison.

Martinez is a lovely guy and dead genuine, but I ( along with a few others ) spent an evening with Kendall before he turned it round.

We talked to him about the situation and not once did he blame the fans or his players. He accepted total responsibility for where we were, was convinced he was going to fix it, but accepted if he didn't, then he would be leaving.

I've only met Martinez briefly once, and he's obviously passionate about football and Everton, but I don't get the impression he has the same underlying strength of character that Howard did, but it'd be tremendous if I was wrong and he can turn it round
.
Interesting mate. Thanks. Damn scary times they must have been back then.
One was a true Evertonian. The other?

I've been reading this thread since the beginning, and I'm finding that most of the time I'm agreeing with Dave. Results have not been as good as they should be, but it takes time to build a team and it takes even longer to have that team play in a new way with confidence, particularly when you are a young manager with a specific plan. We have top rated defenders for every defensive position, and good defenders as back up...maybe we need a rock sitting in front of the back four or play three at the back(which is really five at the back when required). Our goal difference is in the top six in the league, and our main striker has scored for fun, and yet people say we are 'boring'....we are not boring, we are just lacking in some understanding and lacking at little luck, which will change.(Chelsea away, and others of our away games(only two lost all season)...convert just three of our many draws to wins and thats 6 more points for starters. We are not the only team who has underperformed...City, United, Chelsea have been poor, to name a few. The one thing supporters never have is patience. Lets see were we are this time next season, and make a judgement then.
I've heard this over and over now and whilst it sounds good no team really gets it in the top flight. Players won't hang around for 5 years of what is a short career for some. Also after 3 years of a 4 year plan I would expect to see major improvement in what he inherited. The fact that it hasn't really is because he is just the opposite of Moyes where their relevant skills lie in attacking or defending, not both.
I blame the board for how its going now. They've allowed him to just carry on with his philosophy regardless of results. I've said before that to me he is a cup manager which has been proved with the 2 semis. I think he would make a great international coach but I don't think he's got it to be a league campaign manager. Not in the PL anyway.

That Richard Keys off Sky, reckons we are heading for the Chamionship, and all our best players will be doing a runner, all looking a bit bleak by the look of things.

That may well be true, but surely we're not gonna take notice of a no-mark like Richard Keyes are we... worse than taking the word of a Kopite that would be.

Read on another forum:

11th highest wage bill in the league
16th highest spend since Martinez joined

Remove the deadwood this summer and i imagine the wage bill would be around 16th as well.
So you saying he is just a bog standard run of the mill manager and has us were we should be?
I thought he was supposed to be this great manager that can take a team forward.

Thanks for clearing it up for me.

I'd say the way he tells us fluff he may not get us at all.

Noone's perfect.

As much as the results, his overwhelming positivity in response to gashness will likely be his downfall. Most of the fanbase are Brits from the North-West and we appreciate straight talking.

A "can do" attitude won't be tolerated once it's apparent that it's just words. Blues have been very patient with him so far.

No name calling from me. Where did you see that?

Please explain what you mean by 'attention seek'. I posted some support for Davek in his support of Martinez and I'm 'attention seeking' If you feel the need, read through some of my earlier posts, and then get real.

Meaning if no one replies to your post and you then go on to post again to bring attention to it, calling people plebs in the process. Not hard to understand is it?
