Define 'Struggling badly'

He already did, last season

The EL has defo complicated matters too...something we wont need to worry about next season.

Big summer for Martinez coming up. I like him and his style, but there really wont be any hiding place for him if we're not comfortably in the top half all next season (after the dust has settled by the end of September).

Winning the cup is SUCCESS.

When you experience it you'll know the difference between that and top half finishes.

I've experienced winning cups with my home town team as I'm sure many on here have with Everton. Winning is an amazing experience that lives with you for life but our bread and butter is the league. How many people going to Goodison this season have left going 'never mind remember how good winning the fa cup was in 95'. What proportion of the Wigan support have had their memories of lifting the trophy soured by the reality of third tier football. Success in the cup didn't stop Portsmouth from being an absolute joke of a club - cup success is not a magic bullet.

We want the FA Cup of course we do but preferably not as respite from a diabolical performance in the league.

I have defended him for a long time, but the WHU game was the final straw for me. That's wasn't down to bad luck, individual players making mistakes or anything else, other than the Manager making the wrong decisions, again.

Then, yesterday, I hear him saying about matching United for most of the game. Is he living in the past? We shouldn't be 'matching' the worst United team in living history, with jokers at both sides of full back, a CH who Barkley could run past in reverse, we should be absolutely annihilating them, regardless of where the game takes place.

However, he seemed to stick a DM in Cleverley on the left, a RW in Lennon in AM and an AM in Barkley in DM for large parts of the game.

He's put us in this position with what he himslef describes as some of the brightest talents in Europe.

Wheres this winning mentatility and winning environment he says is vital to create? CAuse all I'm seeing at Goodinon week in week out now is anger or apathy, and neither of these are conducive to winning games of football. He's done that to us, with not only his team selection and tactical naivety, but his complete lack of awareness of speaking complete bubbles after games.

My Dad is an incredibly mild mannered man, but Martinez's pre match interviews have him spitting feathers. He seems to big up EVERY sing;e opposition. He does their teamtalk for them.

<insert team here> are a fantastic team who will bring their own challenges that. They are in a phenomenal moment of form at home/away from home and it will be a test for out positive attitude to get something from the game.

And then, the press conference on Thursday.. When asked about Rom wanting to move for CL football. His only response was, we're rich now, so....... HE WANTS TO PLAY WINNING FOOTBALL and because of YOU, Martinez, we're not.

Get out of our club.

WHU united which we would have won with 10 men but for a penalty muss and 2 individual errors from Mori

OR

Arsenal game which involved one individual error

OR yesterdays games individual error?

Didjt realise we were favourites to beat arsenal or Utd myself....

Get it done, we done the board out plane protests and that's when the media finally started listening to us and had a pop at the board then whey Moshiri suddenly arrives.

It will either shove a rocket up his backside for the semi or atleast show the new guy that we want to see a positive change.

Nobody says it isn't success...for a given value of success. You can want to win the Cup AND be rid of Martinez...they aren't mutually exclusive / you can't have one without the other.

Face it mate, you blew all credibility 13mths ago,(thank you The Esk ) you're parodying yourself now, you're going forward because you can't back pedal past that 01/03/15 thing.
But never fear, when the new guy comes in you can 'I told you so' all day long...in the manner of Charlton Heston in Planet of the Apes; With a half buried statue of Roberto done in that soviet hero style, *cries; If they'd only given him time, *sinks to knees.

A better wordsmiths than me coined it.

Gist; There is no butterfly going to emerge from this WIP/ Chrysalis.

We'd better give all our cups back then. Other than the league trophies as thats all that counts right? The rest are luck.....

Best tell Barca theyre lucky in the European Cup as well if thats the psychology.
What point are you trying to make here?

Are you and Dave suggesting that it is a choice between doing well in the league and doing well in the cup?

When we got to the final in 2009 we finished 5th in the league.

When we got to the Carling Cup semi final in 2008, we finished 5th in the league AND got knocked out on pens in the Last 16 of the UEFA Cup.

When we got to the 2012 semi, we finished 7th in the league.

But of course, it is a straight choice between a diabolical season in the league and getting to a semi final.

I support him, and think overall he's done a good solid job here regardless. I'm unshakeable in that view. It'd take a fourth season where we were struggling badly to convince me to say let's try again.
so you're happy leaving the most important summer in our recent history in the hands of a man who has a WOEFUL league performance over two full seasons, just because he's gotten us to two semi finals.

Let's not overvalue those cup runs by the way. We've gotten past a stellar cast of:

Barnsley
Reading
Norwich (pens)
Middlesbrough
Dagenham & Redbridge
Carlisle
Bournemouth
Chelsea

We've beaten ONE decent side in the entire two cup runs, and even that was a Chelsea side having their worst season in God knows how long.

Nor should we probably get TOO excited about getting past the SF, since we've not beaten ANY of the sides left in the competition

So explain again, with all that in mind, why you still think he's the man to take us forwards?

I await your sidestepping mate. Unless of course you're just on the wind up - but obviously THAT could never be the case!!

Im actually finding it a mix of disturbing and amusing.

Totally illogical behaviour.

Dont win a cup for 21 years....get in League cup semi and were so close to getting to the final with 1/10th of the money compared to City (or lower) on the day. Zero Credit.

Now in the FA Cup semi and people want to implode the team....

Because we are mid table in the middle of a rebuilding process.

Posters last week saying they dont want to win the cup if it means martinez stays...we play to win trophies but they dont want a trophy but want a different manager.

Like i said, disturbing and amusing at the same time.
People have wrote relatively long posts re: why they think Martinez isn't the man for the job in the other thread. You or Dave don't answer them, can't answer them, you only mock how unbelievable it all is. Now you both trying to derail another thread that would self-govern itself.

Why are you trying to put words in my mouth?

I didnt say anything like that at all.

Dearie me.

Ignore the whole season in a sad attempt to prove yourself right. No one said we have a right to beat Arsenal but at home youd expect to have a very good chance to.

How do you mean "ignore the whole season"?
