Winning the FA Cup will just be sticking a bandage on a gaping wound that requires an experts attention to mend and nurse back to good health. When we're still crap next season the FA cup will be a distant memory.

Key evidence to my stance...the Cup results even if they work in our favor will not change what the fans want.

Not for some. Being 5th two years ago is still the stick used to beat us into accepting a sub standard manager. How many years would be expected to put up with him should we lift a trophy.

I love how Martinez's ambition for Champion's League is now being thrown back in his face because he actually set a tough expectation for himself.

Shame on him for raising expectations among the masses.

Much rather have a dour soul in charge patting us on the head telling us we are punching above our weight.
Sadly it shows how much of a failure he has become in the role, after the first season it looked like he'd deliver on his promise but look at the state of that league table over the last 2 seasons.

The chances of him guiding the team to anything like his first season is slim to nil in my opinion particularly with the advances made by teams such as Leicester, west ham and spurs.

New manager, fresh start.

They don't grasp it and for good reason: Any winding up is down to them. It's done under their own steam and with no help from me. I play a straight bat and defend this manager consistently and because I won't cave in to their OTT nonsense it gets classed as a wind up. Do you really think I'm on the wind up where Martinez is concerned? I'd have thought it was abundantly clear that it's sincere.

I backed him to come in, and I think overall he's been a success in creating a different brand of football, a much improved squad, and he still has us on course to do something we haven't done in over two decades - win something. That's something and someone easily still worthwhile backing. Which I'll continue to do.

I think you're broadly in favour of Martinez. But you know exactly what buttons to press to fire people up, and you're always looking to goad people to get a reaction. Because of the sheer volume of your posts, it's that which stifles debate.

You're a bright guy, you know what you're doing.

I voted out. I think we need a bit of a wake up call in the summer the could be 5 or 6 out the door and replaced with younger talented players maybe a marquee signing amongst them

Whether we win the FA Cup or not that should not dress up our performance RESULTS wise in the league. The last 2 seasons suggest that he will take us further down. We managed to get out of a hole last season after fluttering above the drop around February/March finishing top of the bad bunch in the bottom half. We are looking likely to match that this season in a poor league where everybody has beaten everyone.
I'm not for taking chances with this man in charge and his useless back room.
He cannot manage a football team!

On a positive note I think majority of his signings have been good buys shame he doesn't know how to manage them.

Win the FA cup, then part ways on a high and get a manager in with a track record and start showing ambition.

Because the cup doesn't show progress

If the luck of the cup is key evidence to your stance then you're on shaky ground

Look at us barely hanging on to 12th in the league. That's the Martinez Everton

Moyes bought a career off it...doesn't change that it was refreshing to actually hear a real target.

Poor old Davey...been sacked twice.

Why bring moyes into it. He got the job by promising to keep us up. Not an easy task when he took over. He more than succeeded

Poor old Davey...been sacked twice since.

Was actually BK who said this in the first Martinez prezzer. Martinez has said it since but I also remember Moyes saying he wanted to win the league. The difference is one manager knew what his players were capable of and the other was an ideological buffoon on an ego trip who couldn't believe the job he was getting.
