Losing to the worst Man United side in 20 years without them creating a single chance takes some doing. Good work Everton.

Imagine a club that is likely to finish behind West Brom and Stoke trying to convince Andriy Yarmolenko to join. Jog on.

Mad we sold Naismith and signed Niasse

That second half weirdly felt like an away trip under Walter Smith. It's that bad. So, so abject that you are resigned to a defeat.

I'm just highlighting the absurdity of your position seeing as you asked. A year ago there was no hiding place, now "no-one is arsed".

We support Everton for God's sake not Martinez. The club is bigger than any individual be that Chairman, shareholder, director, manager or player. The majority of Everton supporters, most of the football industry, increasingly the media (no matter how irrelevant they may be) recognise that we are significantly under achieving under Martinez. Yet you, and almost you alone maintain that he's making progress.

There's been several times in my life when I've taken the contrarian position, I've never seen anyone take such a contrarian position as yourself. I'd love a meaningful explanation, because for the life of me I can't see a logical explanation.
You won't get one, because WUM is as WUM does.

We have some outstanding players but Roberto Martinez is not managing to get them to feel or perform good. It is glaringly obvious that RM has to go. Niasse has been pointless, we'd have been better recalling McAleny.

Our league table position does not lie. Players like Coleman's passing has become sloppier, there is too much emphasis on being perfect and we are teams within a team with no real defining parts of who we are.

Barry will return but it won't be enough to save Martinez's blushes. I want him out and I want a manager who is able to transmit a winning and energetic ethos to the players.

Joe Royle is perfect until the end of the season.

Today's Manchester United performance was terrible as a team. We only showed urgency when going a goal down.

That last line is way OTT. How is a club progressing its squad and progressing to the business end of two cup competitions not making progress? Progress in the league would have meant a second season whereby we surpassed 72 points and gained 4th spot. So it was always a tough ask to progress on that first season. Are the league results disappointing? Yes. He needs to improve this by bringing in a leader for that defence and a new GK.

You know what? It's actually your position that's the one lacking in balance, the very accusation you throw at me. That's because you can't or won't recognise the decent things achieved here during this season in all competitions and in the mans overall time here.

But I'm easily boxed off as a "contrarian". Sorry, but I won't be brow beaten by anyone and told that it's all black and white. Because that's basically your position - that it's all bleak. It isn't, it's much more complex than that (and deep down you know it) but you seem to have chosen to lump in your lot with the hang em and flog em brigade on here.

Sad to see the deterioration in your posting on here over the last few months or so. And I say that genuinely.

I think the crux of his stance is that he feels that Martinez is being judged differently than any manager before him in terms of expectations.

Which he is to be fair. That said, we have a much stronger squad capable of much more. Sure we still have a chance at the Cup and end our trophy drought, but for me even if we win the Cup it's time to part ways.

I see nothing good with him being given more time. Getting a new manager in ASAP in the summer is crucial for us entering next season.

No offence mate, but there is absolutely nothing you contribute to our forum that I determine 'genuine'. The Leicester game this season was the Damascus moment for me regarding your Rumpelstiltskin proclivities.

But please, don't stop; you have become source of great amusement

I have no response to any of the above Dave - you're a true blue, you know as much about Everton and football as I do - if you want to see Everton in an almost completely mirror image to the way I see it, so be it.

I respect you as an Evertonian, I believe you want what I want - a successful club, competitive and winning silverware. Your vision of how we achieve that and mine are clearly very different.

End of conversation as far as I am concerned.

I was serious.

People know you're winding them up, but, for whatever reason, they don't feel able to ignore you, so they get wound up and are unable to have a sensible debate, or even find time to talk about pasties.

A lot of that is down to you.
Sales in Greggs are down 15% in two years as well.
They don't grasp it and for good reason: Any winding up is down to them. It's done under their own steam and with no help from me. I play a straight bat and defend this manager consistently and because I won't cave in to their OTT nonsense it gets classed as a wind up. Do you really think I'm on the wind up where Martinez is concerned? I'd have thought it was abundantly clear that it's sincere.

I backed him to come in, and I think overall he's been a success in creating a different brand of football, a much improved squad, and he still has us on course to do something we haven't done in over two decades - win something. That's something and someone easily still worthwhile backing. Which I'll continue to do.
