Owner of Carragher's bar in New York bids to rescue Lime Street's Statue of Liberty

Echo article about the Belfast born kopite and owner of NYC Irish bars Brian McLaughlin. He wants to bring over to the States the miniature Statue of Liberty from above the old (as I still call it) American Bar on the neglected part of Lime Street. Quite an interesting piece...but one which still still manages to display the ability of the RS...even commercially successful ones... to make themselves look imbeciles with impunity.
"............43-year-old Brian says he doesn’t believe it has any value - “it’s probably plastic and it’s quite big, four or five foot high, so it’ll cost me more to ship it to America than it’s worth, but I’d love to have it,” he laughs. “I’ll try and put it outside the bar if I get it, there is plenty of room for it, but it’s tricky with planning regulations here so if I have to I’ll find a great place for it inside.”
All Brian now has to do is find the statue’s owner and make the offer, which is where the Echo comes in. If anyone currently owns her, or knows who does, they can get in touch with Brian via email on kingkennyseven@aol.com - and hopefully it can find a new lucky home in time for Liverpool’s Europa League clash with Borussia Dortmund! "

They just make me cringe.....and Ive cleaned that sentence up.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the problem in that tweet from our neighbours? Pretty sure there were a few clubs and football related accounts tweeting quotes from the great man yesterday, like that Leeds one above. It's simply showing respect to a guy that had respect for them

It's making it all about the respect for them. Yes there are a lot of tweeted quotes, but the vast majority are about the man, his legacy and his thoughts on football in general. They've looked for a quote complimenting them to bathe in his reflected glory.

It's like being asked to say a few words at a much admired person's funeral and saying

''(insert name of deceased) always said I was the best person he'd ever met''.

It's just distasteful.
