I was nearly a "yes" to be honest.
By me they're really quite alright, decent reliable service, if not a touch steep

It's the culture of buying in advance for discount or getting robbed on the day I don't like (for longer journeys) . Would prefer levelled prices that are sonewhere in between.

Also different companies lining up to sell you the same tickets for different prices!

Never had any trouble with them personally.

However the prices are ridiculous. A train from Manchester to London is more expensive than a flight from Manchester to Croatia.

Uncomfortable seats
Always grizzling, loud, brattish children
Exorbitant ticket prices
Pathetic 'buffet' selection
Paying to stand for hours on end
No.

As an occasional user I think the trains are great, but I'd hate to use them on a regular basis or have a season ticket ( price of a car )

I generally travel off peak, so the prices are cheap and the trains less packed.

However I had to travel to Edinburgh last year and seriously considered flying from Manchester as the prices were almost the same - eventually found a cheap off peak with a few changes on the way.

South Parkway station in Allerton is superb and you never generally have to wait for more than ten mins for a train there .

yes at times. But i'm basing it off the wirral line trains rather than national ones.

I can report back in november at least about national trains!

The trains aren't that bad tbh, in my experience. They should be more regular though (nationally).
However, the price is ridiculously high so have to vote No.

I was in Italy in October. I booked 3 separate journeys between major cities for me and the mrs, totalling about 1000 miles, it came to £96.
Even if you booked only a few days before actually travelling the total was still close to what I paid.

Yet if I want to go to London this Saturday it would be double the cost just for one person. We have the highest prices in Europe by a huge distance.

As someone who is lucky enough to live 'where the trains run on time', the prices, availability and standards of regional services I use when I come back to the UK are frankly appalling compared to some in Europe. (When I've been on UK long-distance services these have seemed improved over the years.)

Many trains are filthy and old and the pricing appears designed to rip the consumer off. (For example, when I am travelling from relatives to Liverpool a ticket for the full journey costs more than double splitting the journey in two and buying two tickets for the same services.)

Today I was on the train twice. The two were run by rail services of different countries. (I live near the border.) Both were modern, smart and spotless. Both were exactly on time (travelling through fresh snow in 'difficult' countryside). I have a rail card (available to anyone living in the country for €100,- annually - I got mine for €50,- on a special offer) and so the journey cost me €1,20 each way. (Normal price €3,50.)

A similar single journey - distance and time - from where my sister lives in the UK would cost £7.30 on a grubby overcrowded three-carriage regional service.

The prices are prohibitive and the quality of service is extremely mixed to say the least.

The pricing structure and complexity is also ridiculous.

I also hate the way the UK has always historically seen spending on roads as 'investment' but anything spent on the railways as 'subsidy'

Agreed on the pricing being ridiculous, quality is alright for some trains/lines and great for the bigger ones, but Brits like to have a moan at stuff ffs.

Anyway, subsidy because they're not government owned.
