Roberto Martinez discussion

Take a deep breath mate. The fumageddon on forums bears little relation to reality with this club. No one there is seeing what people on here is seeing and arguing. NONE of them.

Everton aren't an issue industry wide as a club that should part company wit it's manager...most would see it as weird given our footballing improvement. Our board will take their cue from them not footy forums.

Let's all just calm down and see what the next three months brings and then start planning for 2016/17.

Agree on that point mate.

He gets until the end of the season as there is no other viable alternative in my mind.

However, if there aren't results to back up the signs of turning it around, then he may have to go. It can't go on like this as, ultimately, it'll get us nowhere.

To think we may end up with the PL's top goalscorer and now (and this is the first time I'm really thinking this) bottom half or 10th place, is very very poor. Not all of that is the manager's fault and that's what people need to understand, but also it is an inditement that he may not be able to fully change his ways. He was so close yesterday, and for some reason pulled the rug out from underneath himself.

If we lose vs Chelsea and Arsenal, I could see him going in the international window but at the same time can't think of a replacement who would be a definite improvement at this point being available.

Summer will be a different story.

I'm still swaying towards giving him until the end of the season but unless he wins us the cup and/or drastically turns around the home form (too little too late probably), then I'd understand him going.

I'll stick by him as he's done a lot of good, but, ultimately, I am really now starting to doubt if he has the ability to take us to the next level with the system, and it may well be a case that he has to be replaced by somebody capable of using the system he has set in place to take us on.

I think that for both you and i yesterday's game was a turning point. The goodwill finally got stretched to breaking point.

Every single manager has a flaw. Usually more than one.

Martinez has shown last season, and this, that he can overcome what many perceive to be his.

Thing is, we cannot escape the brutal reality that this/these flaws are being repeated. The table shows it. The stats show it.

His attributes, for me, still outweigh the flaws. Just. And mainly because his flaws should be a damn sight easier to fix than his attributes would be to emulate, if that makes sense.

But Christ, he makes it hard at times.

This exactly.

I'm not over exaggerating here when I say we were fantastic yesterday. From the team selection to going a man down we reacted brilliantly. The penalty miss shook us but after that we were still on top and restricting West Ham to very little.

That substitution totally changed and, as I said, facilitated our defence to be exposed. They capitulated and that's as much down to the players as the manager but he should never have put the team in that situation. There's been plenty of times this season where he's kept a team going that was holding a lead until just the right time. Why he switched it up yesterday - or at least at that moment with the choice of player he brought on - was naive to say the least.

imagine if we go 2-0 up and lose

And theres the crux, defeat I can accept, hell im an Evertonian, defeat has been our middle name for VAST periods of my time supporting the club, I am no stranger to the demon that they call defeat, its the manner of defeats and the subs made during games.

Football is a game of seconds, it really is amazing, ive never known a season like this. Im sure if I went back I could pinpoint the precise second we lost or drew certain games, Geri not keeping hold of the ball versus Chelsea, Lukakus stutter step yesterday, not picking up that King fella from the free kick at Bournemouth and so on.

But the thing is, if we battered Chelsea 3 0, we wouldnt be that surprised. Well we would, but you get the point. We can go toe to toe with anyone. But we can also do an Everton.

Sake Bobby.

I'd be shocked mate if we beat Chelsea on Sat I really would

Not a chance in hell we are keeping a clean sheet so we need at least 2

For me though the players must all take a hard long look at themselves - Rom - as good as he was - also for that penalty miss.

No mate. Penalties are missed sometimes - it happens. The 3rd goal there would've just been a luxury, but at home, a 2-0 lead should be enough to win the game.

Penalty miss or no penalty miss, you have a two goal lead with 10 minutes to go and lose. It's unacceptable. The way we manage leads is terrible. I walked out the pub at 2-1 yesterday because I knew exactly what was coming. It's a sad day when you know exactly what's going to happen, and Everton do absolutely nothing to prove you wrong.
