Roberto Martinez discussion

Why is there talk of Rom or Lennon being 'knackered'? They'd only played 70 mins. Amongst other things our fitness, concentration, and ability to play at a good level for 95 mins have been very poor. Some games it's 50 mins of great football then the whole team goes off a cliff. We've not got the basic platform in place that allows us to get consistent results: fitness, consistency of selection (only just starting to happen now), defensive solidity, rehearsed set pieces. Any decent premier league side had these things then builds an attacking game on top of it. We seem to send out 11 exceptional players but with absolutely no instruction, so when things go wrong they are all over the show. Tata Martino showed that you can't do that even with players of the class of Barcelona, they need a disciplined core way of playing then you can embellish from there. We are all icing no cake, someone even touches it with a knife and the whole thing falls down.
Rom was in beast mode yesterday, ran his socks off, as did Lennon.

Rom, Lennon and Barkley were superb when we were down to 10 men, they didn't deserve that yesterday.

If Claudio Ranieri goes from Juventus, Roma, Inter Milan and Monaco to LEICESTER why can't mighty Everton who can still win the FA Cup attract Mourinho?

Good point about Ranieri. It does make you wonder about the cailbre of manager we might be able to attract once Martinez succumbs to the inevitable. Especially now we have some real money behind us

4 homes wins all season, jesus it gets more depressing every time you look at that stat

Newcastle, villa, Sunderland and Chelsea are the only 3 teams in the land who have not come away with anything from goodison.

Wow, 3 relegation candidates and a poor Chelsea side at that time
This all day long. 4 home league win and 7(!!) home defeats is simply not good enough. We've lost the last 3 at home to to Swansea West Bromwich and West Ham. If you want to go further back since beating Villa at home we've drawn against Palace and Spurs and lost to Leicester, Stoke, Swansea, West Bromwich and West Ham. We've beaten Newcastle!! Next up is Arsenal. But no matter what happens in the last 4 homes games our home records is shocking. You can look at excuses in the framework of each game, but overall those stats don't lie.

Exactly, those three players are a major reason we're not in another relegation scrap at this time of year. Three of the league's top attacking players yet Lukaku, along with the fans, was thrown under the bus by the man who will never blame himself.

yes, although when outed, some fall on their sword. I sit here in NZ, midnight on a Sunday night absolutely confounded as to how Mr Roberto Martinez tactically conspired to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. His previous in such affairs is of such egregious nature as to be unforgivable
Yes, he sent shockwaves thru the world...but is he an evil genius...no, just inadequate employee though talented...

That's the thing, West Ham are a good side no mistake but when those three you mention played like they did to put us 2-0 up then the rest of them (including Bobby) conspire to throw it away it is only going to make those kind of players think 'what's the friggin point?' And want a move in summer. Maybe not Lennon but definitely the other two

It is 6 months since we have beaten a team outside of the bottom 3 at home and the only team we have beaten outside of the bottom 3 away in the last 5 months is Stoke City. It us very clear to all that we are going backwards under Martinez. In the opinion of most this is the best squad we have had since the 80's! Every week in his after match interviews he tells us how 'we must learn from this' - he is clearly not learning and sadly it is time for him to go! We look like Wigan with better players.

lollollollollol

inevitable..... Bobby's going nowhere, why should he? we are a solid defence away from Europe again and thats the thing hes been working on since Christmas. Nothing happens over night but you can see the improvement.

Where are you suddenly getting 'real money' to spend from? The new guy isn't going to give us £100s of millions to spend. He will give us a modest boost and allow us to upgrade a lot of things around the Club, and probably finally sort out the Stadium mess. It's the sorting out of the Stadium mess that will bring the money in. It's only what happened at Arsenal.

I am frustrated with Martinez but feel the players are getting away with little or no criticism. You don't need a genius defensive coach to tell you how to do the basics, stopping crosses and challenging in the air, being aware of the knock on. It's a collective responsibility.

what that our attack is ok, our defense hasn't been but is improving?
or that the new owner isn't going to do exactly want was successful at Arsenal and sell up large sections of his business empire to spend on the hideously overpriced end of the transfer market when Bobby has already proven he can find equally good players cheaper.

He'll see us like Arsenal were 10 years ago. Good attacking team, Stadium to sort out, Stable Manager with a track record of finding gems for not ridiculous money, etc.

Correct, These are all full Internationals that can't deal with crosses or close down players.
