Played well as one of two holding midfeilders, played deeper then i have seen a DM ever play for us at times, almost like a fifth defender come midfeilder. Anyway he and Rodwell i thought really complemented each other although i didnt think Yesterday was Jacks best game - their distribution is excellent though. The pleasing thing is we looked solid, the first time in a long time we can say that. Jonny H has a touch of the mad dog Gravesons about him doesnt he - with the wide pulsating vein on the side of his head.

If we can perform like that (though i know we have more in the tank) we are going to be competitive for Europe.

*Super Lee Carsley was ace!

I have by no means been his biggest fan so far this season. But yesterday he was my MoM. Thougt he was great in the middle an done plenty of good things. Id keep him their if the defence are all fit.

We need players to start standing up and being counted.

Well done John!!!

I love him

Chased round everywhere yesterday, took no grief, and wasn't afraid to get forward.

wonder what dutch toffee has to say.

What do you mean? It's not that I ****ged him of before. Just said he had his shortcomings. When the rumours started to surface that Everton were looking to sign him, I said he was a physical strong player with great passing skills, a good header and driven shot specialist.

Also said he was prone to defensive mistakes, his positional sense leaves room for improvement and there have been a fair few lapses in his concentration in the past. If Moyes succeeds in taking this out of his game he could become a great player for Everton. On top of that, said that he was still relatively young for a CB and it could all come with experience.

Never rated him as a RB and I'm still fully behind that statement. His best position is CB for me and he can do a job as a DM. Think you'll find all of these statements in the original post, look it up if you can be bothered.

I know I said, I thought it was a strange signing and couldn't see where he would fit in when we had a fully fit squad to choose from. At RB I definately prefer Neill. In central midfield, I think it will be between him, Neville and Rodwell to partner Arteta. Personally prefer Rodwell over Heitinga. At CB, there's no way he will oust Jagielka and I always have been a huge Joseph Yobo fan, so he will get my nod over Johnny. Just my opinion like and I will stay with that for the time being. Gladly be proven wrong by my countryman though.(y)

Edit: Think as soon as Neville is fit, Moyes will find a place in the team for him. Can't see him dropping his captain.

yup .. most of the above.. excellent to see some grit back in the middle of the park. just hope he is given some time to make the position his own. on yesterdays showing he has more in his locked for that position than pip imo.

Any two from?

Jonny H
Heitinga
Arteta
Captain Phil!

*Jonny H plays more like a sweeper, playing infront of the back four rather then behind, almost like a fifth defender, yet he has range and tenacity - still needs to adjust to the Prem - its in the post though.

I thought he had a solid game and I may have been too quick to say 'he's not a midfielder' like I did against Wolves. He used the ball intelligently, held his position well and put his foot in when needed.

I like the guy, he's got a good attitude but he really does need a position now. We can't keep moving him every week just to keep him in the side. It'll be a waste of him as a player and it certainly won't help the team as we need a balanced side.

Agreeded. Where does he fit best in your opinion?

I haven't seen enough of him in one position to judge.

He's probably looked most comfortable at centre back and a bit hit and miss at right back and in midfield. But his performance yesterday was promising so who knows.

On yesterdays performencee he certainly has the ability, wheather he can do it as a primary DM without Rodwell assisting him to anchor and give Arteta the licence to move forward - remains to be seen. Still think he is adjusting to the league and his new surropundings and hasnt found the level of cosistency in a single position - he is the victim of being versatile, being cup tied and injuries really up to now.

If he can plug holes and close down men and space like Phil and do it consistently - he has a better range of passing, techniuqe and more vision then Phil - consistencey and reliabilty though will be the telling factor.

yup. and i tend to agree with dutch re; his positional frailty in defence. middle of the park. BUT he needs a good few weeks to see if he can root himself there. me thinks he can.

i liked what moyes said in the guardian feature about being 'in the process of building a new side'.. think he could be a big part of that.
