New Stadium or Redeveloped Goodison?

If it's possible to modernise goodison then that would be brilliant. But surely if they go with a new stadium then that's because it's the sensible option.

I don't profess to know how feasible it is to redevelop the Old Lady, nor do I understand the economics of building a brand new stadium. But if either option is pursued now I'll believe it's in the best interest of the club and that's all I want.

I'm still haunted by my first trip to the reebok stadium which is apparently now The Macro stadium. Felt like it was time to let go of a part of life.
It's all a bit of a spiritual thing for me about when as a fan I'm no longer part of whatever it is that makes it a football club.
Anything that keeps us at Goodison should be pursued at all costs in my opinion. Ten years down the line I don't want to find all younger family members telling you they can't make the pub as they haven't renewed their Argos Stadium personal ipod docking contract, or whatever it is that goes on at these retail park outlet monstrosities some people call football grounds.

I hope now the new stadium is delivered, I love Goodison, I just cannot see redevelopment working. I have watched the video on how it could be done and I think it would take a really long time and I am still not sure it would address half of the problems we have at the moment. Walton Hall Park seems to be a deliverable solution.

I just hope we go with a top of the range stadium design, the Kings Dock stadium had a retractable roof and retractable pitch, so the site could be used on non-match days and not detract from the football side of things and provide extra revenue. where as the Kirkby stadium didn't have those elements to it.

Something like the Veltins Arena in Germany would be awesome, It was built in 2001 and is the home of Schalke 04, seats just under 55,000. It cost 186 million Euros to build, so not the cheap option, but it is regularly used as a concert venue and boxing arena

A great stadium with a good atmosphere, partly down to the fact it is more akin to a standard four sided design rather than bowl shape.

If you look at Spud's new stadium design, they've opted for a standard bowl like design on the outside but a four sided approach inside.

It is certainly possible to produce a new stadium which maintains an atmosphere; it just requires time, effort and determination to plan.

I've only read the first 5 pages of this thread but the number of people who are claiming that Goodison can't be re-developed because it is land locked is mind numbing. I suggest reading the documentation that has been available for the best part of the decade before regurgitating these lies.

I agree. Consider the source -- I'm sure most people think that because of Kirkby lies. Everton + Goodison is much stronger from a marketing perspective than Everton + generic new stadium.

In an ideal world I would love to see Goodison redeveloped, probably mainly for purely sentimental reasons, and for the fact that there is no better place to be than Goodison Park under the lights for a big night game! However to redevelop Goodison it would mean buying up surrounding houses which would take years and years, and cause grief in the area - kopite behaviour that! If it's a new build there are really only two places I would love to see it being built, 1) Stanley Park, planning permission has already been granted for a stadium there so that shouldn't be a problem, and that lot across the park would absolutely hate the fact that we had a new stadium there! 2) Down by the docks somewhere as per the Kings Dock project! Imagine the fume from that lot when pictures of the waterfront included The New Goodison Park for all the world to see!

No it wouldn't. As I mentioned above it is melting my brain that people keep saying this.

The docs have been in the public domain for YEARS which show the re-development possibilities at Goodison. In summary just building a new Park End in the MASSIVE space available at that end of the stadium and re-configuring the already huge main stand would give us everything a new stadium would give us in terms of increased capacity and coorporate facilities.

Then there are many other long term options (which may or may not require land grab) which could improve/expand the stadium further.

As much as I love Goodison, I think a new stadium is the most feasible option.

This could be a huge window of opportunity. Now that our neighbours have committed to staying put and as impressive as that new stand is looking, Anfield will only ever really be suitable for football matches.

Imagine a brand new 45-50k stadium in the city (ideally close to the city centre) that would not only be catered for football but also suitable for corporate events, concerts, boxing matches, monster trucks (like on the Kings Dock video) etc. There's nothing currently like this in the city, you have to travel to Manchester to see a 'big' event.

Either that or turn the Glwadys Street and Bullens into a single tier wrap around and build a quadruple tiered Park End (bigger than then new Anfield Main Stand of course) and put an new roof on the Goodison road side with the Arteta money?

This is going to be a hard-nosed business decision.

If Goodison can be redeveloped into a high quality (measured by impact on revenue streams & brand image) 50k plus stadium within an acceptable timeframe (say 3 years) and acceptable cost (say < £250m) then it may be the best commercial option as we can market the history, continuity etc.

I'm just giving examples of the type of things my fellow accountant Mr. Moshiri will consider rather than saying that these are the actual baseline measures before anyone starts arguing about the numbers!

If any of these is not in place but all conditions would be met by a new build elsewhere then that will be what we get...and vice versa.

Our emotional attachment to Goodison will only be relevant to the extent it delivers a measurable upside to an investment.

It would break my heart to leave Goodison Park, particularly sat watching us scrape a draw against Hull in some new "wonder-bowl".
The history is worth so much and there's no other place like it. Fans of other teams say the same.

So I am torn over we should redevelop or build a new stadium.

I went to Germany last year with work and was lucky enough to take in the Bayern Stadium, the Shalke Stadium and the Dortmund stadium. I have been obsessed with the Dortmund and Shalke ones since then.

I don't know enough about footprints dimensions etc, if we could do a stadium like them two on Goodison - amazing, however if we could build it elsewhere and have something like them i would be made up. That one tier stand at Dortmund is one of the most intimidating things i seen when the fans where on it.

Wrap it in blue lights like the Bayern one and its a goer hahaha.
