Tim Howard

When did the team have confidence? They started getting booed halfway through the first match of the season, and haven't yet won two league matches in a row. This team has looked nervous since the 3-6 Chelsea loss at the beginning of last season.
Newcastle and Stoke not happened? Howard is one of the main reasons it took so long. The man has been at best inconsistent this year, so much so I'd bet the defence doesn't have a clue what the Keeper behind them will be up to.

Sure. Robles is a better choice than Howard now. He's certainly a big factor in the fact we've only allowed one goal in the last five, probably the biggest. A good chunk of our defensive improvement has to have something to do with the fact that Martinez has actually put out a lineup of outfield players who look to defend, though. Howard never got that advantage this season.
Saving shots and pens helps , and punching the ball on crosses too!
Oh and better ball distribution!

Howard played for 6yrs under a Manager who was obsessed with defending and he still made mistakes on a regular basis

Stop looking for something that isn't their

I don't think it's a coincidence that we are looking alot more solid at the back since Howard has been dropped. Great servant for us but he has been in rapid decline for a couple of seasons and it would be in everyone's best interests to cut ties as soon as possible.

Yes, all of that helps, but so does having outfield players who actually defend. We haven't seen much of that until the last few weeks.
But what Joey said is all down to the Keeper. The outfield players help these actions by limiting the amount of them of course, but the actions themselves are all on the Keeper.

Even the bloke in the Daily mail wrote today that Howard has been out of form for a season and a half already.

Yet RM says that Joel is ready now. Not last season when he played well and was promptly dropped.

There is one big reason why EFC has underperformed in the league this season and last season: Flapper Man. Why did RM
go beyond loyalty to pick a player week in week out who was unreliable and getting worse before our very eyes?
