And again, it's context. If Martinez had spent over 100 million last summer I too would be demanding better results. As it stands we have to build slowly .... it's about being realistic in our ambitions. Changing a manager who is 3 seasons into rebuilding a team piece by piece ( and to be honest getting both some woeful and also excellent results ) will set us back years.

No it wont

How is it moving the goal posts to consistently say that 72 points proves he's the superior to Moyes, math at it proves he's a better manager than the keyboard chairmen say he is, and that it was a fantastic season but we'll never get more than that with the resources we have available? That's all I've said in the past on the matter.

Our realistic target should be mid 60 points and try and nick a cup...and play some decent football along the way.

So we should aim for the skies Dave? 60 points as the target my arse mate, whats the clubs motto again?

Care to explain why in the past two seasons Pochettino has massively out performed Martinez with Spurs with a similar philosophy of giving youth a chance and with a similar budget for both clubs

Spours this season net spend was - 16m Euros, ours was +36m Euros (they spend 25m quid more on wages) so still we spent more combined than they did by about 6m pound.
spurs last season broke even on net spend, we spent net + 28m Euros, their wages again was 30m quid more, so overall they spent combined about 5m pounds more than us.

So overall budgets about the same, level of player when both managers took over - pretty similar, both giving youth a chance and Pochettino in the two years he has been in charge is wiping the floor with Martinez performance wise.

Have some ambition. We are Everton. Does NSNO mean nothing?

But yes, you are right when you say that first season set the bar too high. But we have a squad capable of matching that now, and should be surpassing it but isn't.
We've only got more than mid 60 points once in the PL era when RM achieved it.

Without vast investment it's almost impossible to get back up to that crazy points total in this league. I'm convinced now more than ever that 72 points won't ever be gotten near again without major investment.

Why will it set us back years?
