Kone is disgustingly bad.

You can offer all sorts of opinions but at the end of the day, stats don't lie...

4 points from last 6 home games against Leicester, stoke, Spurs, swansea, Newcastle and west brom.

Most goals conceded at home than any other team in European top 5 leagues.

....and the manager of the team providing those stats earns 60,000 pounds A WEEK!!!

I can take us being boring. I don't mind if we are full but competent. I just can't take us being great then awful. The inconsistency is killing me and making the most routine match a stressful experience

I actually think now that this thread says a lot more about posters on here than Martinez himself.

If we had won yesterday (and but for an insane performance from their defence + a looping header we would have) then posters would be saying;

"3 pts off 5th won 4 in a row and Bournemouth next to be shredded".

Instead its "sack the manager".

Absolutely ridiculous.

As for the players, theyre mostly here because of Martinez, Lukaku says hes looking forward to next season as well and Barkley is pretty much Englands best player...so much hard work done by Martinez and hes getting this animosity.

Other than Leicester (Freak season like we had under moyes finishing 4th), Watford (happy to stay up) and Spurs ( who have had money to spend on top internationals and are 2 seasons in development ahead of us) no clubs fans are happy this season.

Totally illogical to want him out when we are so close now. I am in Asia watching streams but think alot of the bile is due to our home record being poor and fans being upset about that and spending money and time just to see the team not win.

Well, its been far worse than that before and we are about to turn a corner.

Jam tomorrow, always with the jam tomorrow...while the bread's going mouldy today

I think it would depend on who we had lined up to replace him, because I certainly wouldn't get rid without one already lined up, but I harbour the same worries. I'm marginally on the in side too but he's one dropping of Joel away from turning that into a no.

I doubt Barkley will leave, but the other 3, unless we got another sweet talker or someone of reputation, would probably leave to be fair. Certainly Stones and Lukaku.

People about a hundred pay grades higher than me are better placed to look for possible replacements, but I certainly don't see the likes of Moyes or AVB being the answer. The likes of Sanchez-Flores who is doing well at Watford, he's a bit of a journeyman and I suspect a one season wonder in the prem like Laudrup.

I like Eddie Howe but he's inexperienced too and the players mentioned above aren't going to want to stay under him, nor will top players want to join him.

For me we've got to wait until the summer, hope the Americans complete their takeover, and aim very high indeed for a top manager.
I'll take a journeyman like Flores all day long getting Valencia into the CL twice (once into the quarters) a cup with Benfica and an EL win with Atletico will do me.

The manager has an APPALLING home record.

4 home wins in 10 months.
4 points from last 6 home games against Leicester, Stoke, Spurs, Swansea, Newcastle and West Brom.
More goals conceded at home this season than ANY other team in Europe's top 5 leagues.

Absolutely damning stats.

Sick and tired of people with their silly 'you're just kneejerkers' shouts. It's not a knee jerk reaction when our form has been awful for MONTHS. 2013/14 was a blip, beginners luck when he still had most of Moyes infrastructure and methods in place and just added a bit of flair. Last season's 11th place finish and this season most probable 10th/11th place finish is the norm. Not good enough at all and cannot be justified.

Also sick and tired of the 'best squad for 20 years' shouts too. They blatantly are not. They're not even the best squad in the last 10 years.

We have 1 top quality goalscorer in Lukaku. We have a flair player in Deloufeu who occasionally excites (when he's in the mood). We have POTENTIALLY a top quality defender in Stones, whose form has dipped and whose motivation/concentration is questionable.

The rest are solid hands, a few above average Prem players who lack the consistency to be top 4 club players (Coleman, Lennon, Cleverley, Mirallas).

The remainder are players who should not even be at the club any more as they are finished - Howard, Osman, Kone for starters. In a year or two it will be Jags and Baines.

Some people need a reality check and to stop hiding behind spin.

He kept the winning side as the starting 11, which people in here wanted him to do

We dominated, hit the post twice.

WBA offered nothing going forward. It's clear that Kone brings out the best in Lukaku. Anything coming into the Box was being snuffed out because A) WBA play 4 CBs, B) our wide boys offer nothing physical at the back post of crosses. Put as many wingers as you want on, they'll beat that first CB one on one but have nothing to aim at. That's why he brought Kone on. It was absolutely the right sub to make of all the options. Niasse would probably have been the one to come on had he been fit.

We got Tony Pulis'd as many teams have over the years. We played well. For one, I'm really enjoying the evolution of Coleman into this RB/ACM hybrid. The opponents just can't pick him up.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing but I think it's clear Pulis knew we'd go with the same 11. Perhaps Baines and Pienaar would have been a better option to try and unlock them but, again, we have very little to aim at in the CF position.
That's an incredibly simplistic view of the game though mate. West brom offered nothing because they were ahead for virtually the entire game, they weren't on the back foot because we were too good for them, they were quite content to play that way and we struggled to create clear chances. Our 'dominance' was due to the way the game panned out.

The Kone sub was terrible. We desperately needed width, we had to stretch them and the best way to do that was with another winger. Instead we put Kone out there and ended up being even more narrow and easy to defend against. Also lukaku doesn't play better with Kone, he's shown that over recent months. Like most strikers, he tends to find things with any other striker alongside him because it means he gets less attention, but there's no reason that has to be Kone.

Leicester's manager is doing a waaaayy better job for their supporters...and I suggest on less remuneration than our snake oil salesman...

Yes. I think the style of at favours that direct 442 style ranieri employs and the man has said he compromised his principles when he saw how effective it was.

My problem is that we dominate at stoke and Peter out against west brom. Could we have not gone more direct? Feel like a cut price mid 00s arsenal

I think the last two games have been a microcosm of where we are at the moment. Against Stoke we counter-attacked brilliantly and should have won by more than 3 goals. We only had 34% possession but hit them consistently on the break, at pace and with good movement by support players. The move for our penalty was a great example of this. A ball from our own half from Oviedo to Barkley, a neat back heel to Oviedo again, who had run on, a quick through ball to Cleverley who had pushed on at pace and he was into their box. The whole move was played at pace and was very direct. This type of move is what we excel at. To play this way, though, you need space for players to move into when we attack. Away from home this is usually not a problem, as the opposition will normally want to push forward as they are the home team. When their attacks break down we have the players to exploit this.

When we play at home, however, the situation is different. Occasionally we will play a team who will come at us and we have a similar situation to an away game. Chelsea this season was a good example of this. They had 61 % possession but we hit them effectively on the break and won pretty comfortably. Usually at home, however, the opposition will sit back and look to hit us on the break (e.g. Stoke and Leicester) or just defend in numbers (e.g. West Brom yesterday). Breaking down teams who set up like this is something we are less good at. I'd say Arsenal are one of the best at this, where they will play a forward game based on quick, short passing in the opposition half with continuous movement of their forward players to try to find space. The movement of our attacking players isn't good enough to do this and we end up either playing primarily down the wings or shuffling the ball side-ways. In situations like that the likes of Baines and Pienaar (at least when he was in his prime) are much more effective than Oviedo and Cleverley. I would be tempted to go for different players and set ups at home and away from home. At home we need players who can operate in a close inter-passing game with constant movement to try to find space. Away from home we do as we do now - absorb pressure and hit teams with pace on the break.
