Roberto Martinez discussion

His subs were crap today but thinking about it logically, we were hideously unlucky not to be at least 2-1 up by half time.

The problem is, he's finally got it right and then had a very unlucky day today, and people aren't differentiating between today and the losses earlier in the year where defensively all at sea.

Pretty crazy to be calling for his head after that one. Only one team tried to win that game and they ended up losing somehow. The mind boggles really.

If he takes Lennon and Robles out straight away I'll be fuming though, Joel couldn't have done anything about the goal and Lennon was immense.

That's the hope.

I agree with a lot of what you've said, except the part about him being 'unlucky' today. I don't think he was - I don't think he reacted to what Pulis did when they went a goal up, and that cost us big time, especially second half.

You make your own luck a lot of the time and, as a manager, you'd expect him to manage the game. I can count on one hand this season the amount of times I've seen a situation where I've thought, "yeah, that's a smart call" from Martinez, yet I've lost count of the sheer amount of daft selection and substitution decisions he's made.

People using possession and shots stats to try and make out we played well today. Foster pretty much had nothing to do apart from catch a couple of daisy cutters.

Horrendous trio of subs. How any manager can look at the narrow, deep set up West Brom were employing and think the answer is Kone on the left wing is beyond belief.
Then he takes off our biggest threat Lennon.
Then incredibly he competes a stunning hat trick of incompetent subs and brings Osman on. Without taking off any of the back four or the two holding midfielders off......despite West Brom having 10 players on the edge of their own box.

Ah, so the player who came off couldn't do the job so we tried something new. Weren't we just criticising him for not trying to mix it up? He can't win. You need to manage this team, you're wasted on here, 99% and all that.

Proper blinkered you, lad.

Martinez has presided over dross for 2 years, you've clearly gotten so used to it that you don't expect anything better.

He took off a winger for an inside forward at a time every stat you care to look at said the winger was our best source of success.

He then brought on a winger again and we looked more dangerous when Deulofeu came on.

Yet it didn't cross his mind once apparently to go with TWO wingers and take off a defensive midfielder, given the game needed stretching and they were camped in their own half.

This isn't me claiming to be a football genius here; this is all common sense that 99% of people would say. The crowd's reaction to that Kone sub showed that the fans at the game certainly saw it the same way.

Except we won 3 games in a row 3 nil up to today. Talking out of your arse like usual. Today it didn't go in. There's not always ways around brick walls, unless you're a kopite. Greece won a Euro doing it.

how when results past 18months say different? Wakey wakey take your Roberto tinted glasses of. We got beat by a dog muck side at home AGAIN

Oh get to fook you Spanish tit, fed up with him spouting crap its the fans again, maybe it because most of them have long since buying into you brand of football, that looks good in about 1 game in 3 and isnt producing results and hasn't for the best part of a year and a half, mike walker with better pr and a tan.
even if he didn't say that i bet he thinks it.
here is what he really said
But Martinez says it’s just one of those situations which is hard to explain, and insists his side did everything right bar scoring.

“We didn’t do anything wrong,” said the boss.

“Their one shot on target ends up in the back of the net. We look bright enough to open them, we hit the post, hit the crossbar.

“The effort and the way that we play the game I couldn’t fault. It is one of those moments in football sometimes that are difficult to explain.”
