Roberto Martinez discussion

How are the players at fault if they're told to do something on the pitch and do it?

Surely what they're told to do is at fault?

Did the players go out there and ignore the manager in any way today? I doubt it - I'm convinced they were told to hold possession, play slow and look for space that isn't there for 95 minutes, because we've done it over and over again, as has Martinez his entire career.

What will it take for you to see patterns emerging here?

I'm only talking about today.

I don't know how we've not scored today. I really don't.

WBA playing with 10 behind the ball. Not a shocker is it?

Big blokes winning all the headers. Not a surprise.

How about using two wingers for the entire second half? Every time the ball came down the left Oviedo was expected to create and take care of the odd counter attack. Kone has to go inside because he lacks pace so their left hand side had it easy.
Did you see the "average positions" thing at half time? Our right hand side looked as it should, winger + wingback/attacking defender, left hand side looked absolutely dead.

It's not as if 2 wingers will be massively detrimental in a game like this, ffs!

Kev's never been great against packed defenses IMO.
His strength as a player is exploiting space, and they didn't give us space today.

Osman lol!

And our third highest ever transfer is deemed not fit enough to be on the bench let alone play even 10 mins (Osman sub) of footy!!

You're seriously saying it was the managers fault that Barkley missed?
Is that seriously what you're saying?

Whenever a player missed a sitter then you said it was his fault. So when Howard made a mistake you blame him entirely.

In your theory, the manager has nothing to do with these bad results just because he is not on the pitch. It was the players who cannot execute his instructions.

He chose the lineup and the tactics. If you can't get the ball into the net and get points that's mean it does not work.

OK, analogy time - think of it this way.

It's a war. Army in the trenches. General orders 100 people over the top. The lot are killed.

Reports come back saying it's a machine gun doing it. One nearly got through, but didn't.

So who's at fault if the general says "oh well, let's try it again, and again, and again"? Is it the general for having a stupid approach to the situation, or are the soldiers just not trying hard enough?

The reason we didn't score today is because not once did we mix it up in terms of shape and tempo, and we were relying on that one fluke ricochet chance or whatever to fall our way, instead of adapting our game plan to increase the odds of winning.
