What do you think it will be like for you.......Retirement

This is where I am now, and it's ace.

Ten years ago, after a couple of weeks off over Christmas, I was actually quite glad to get back to a work environment and, to use a bingo phrase, the "challenge" of whatever tf it is I get paid for, but, more and more, the simple stuff is way more appealing.

You're spot on about being lucky and havingthe choice, many don't have that choice now and even less will have it going forward. Ah well, I'll try not to feel too guilty

I still feel guilty not working anymore. I love it, but I still feel guilty. I've no idea how long it will be before I am totally relaxed about it........

Not me. Was in bangkok a week ago looking at property though. High end condos $1.3mil+ so need to do a lot more work and saving...mental.

Prices out here (Asia generally) going up with all sorts of local taxes for foreigners, also worth noting in most places foreigners cant own land or houses...just condos.

Anyone thinking to retire in Asia needs to do alot of groundwork. Can get proper fleeced out here.

Nearly 40 and just initiated a major career change. Retirement is something that is still more than 25 years away, so it's not at the forefront of my mind. Having said that, I know I won't be spending my retirement years in the UK - it will be France or Canada for Mr. and Mrs. Tree.

So, all you kids and arl buggers, what do you think eventual retirement will bring for you.........
I'm not sure I'll be able to retire.

Will my pension still exist? Will the state pension still exist? The age at which we have to work is rising, my mortgage still has seemingly still got all of eternity to run.

I'm not sure I'll be able to have A retirement, let alone a happy one.

....amazing how quickly those 25 years will go, I promise you.

I talk about this with family a lot.

Even when I am mortgage free at 63, my house bills and running a car in todays money are approx £500/month.
My pension plan is worthless in real terms.

To keep my house once I have paid for it fully, I could not stop working, would have to be part time as my savings and pension will never cover the cost of utilities, council tax and a car.

Currently I work my socks off just to break even day in, day out.
I do not have spare cash to chuck into schemes.

So thats it really. Find a sugar mummy.

Gonna do voluntary or charity work when I retire.
Don't want to sit round waiting to die and want to give back to the country that has looked after me and my family so well.
Obviously also eating drinking and going away with my wife. (not eating my wife)

My neighbours retired about 5 years ago, they do naff all but get up about 10 o'clock and sit in their dressing gowns smoking watching crap on tv - literally waiting to die. What a waste of what could be the best years of your life together.

I really can't see a day when I will be able to retire. I am still only in my 30's so it would be a long way off anyway. I think at the moment the retirement age is 65, but due to increase to 67 by 2020, so in 40 years time the retirement age is going to be well into the 70's I would have thought.

The best I can hope for is that at some point in my 60's I would be able to scale back a bit, or do some sort of part time job. God knows what type of jobs people will be doing in the future, more than likely there will be more jobs that are home based, which could work out well for older people of my generation.
