Roberto Martinez discussion

Last night changed nothing in regards to the manager.

We beat a very poor team at home and considering we still have only beaten relegation zone teams since Sep I'm personally not going to be dancing around after last night.

However we again have a starting point to kick on from and with a new signing to add to the team a potential catalyst to doing well. Ross despite being terrible in and around the area for the most part was fantastic picking the ball up from midfield so more running and passing and less glory hogging and he could be fantastic for us now. Robles again keeping a team out has to count for something now and Lennon earning a place in the team gives us another option.

All in all the best thing last night was winning at home. Now we have to go and keep this going and string some wins together.

Jesus wept.

So we can't count last night as anything good for the manager, but we can count it as a good thing for Robles even though he had barely a thing to do?

Only way for us to keep him long term. He's our own and he can grow to be a great c

I dont think giving him the armband will keep him long term, i think the lad wants to win trophies with us, being captain or not.

I agree with the captaincy shout though. Think he could grow into that role and become better for it.

Newcastle were poor. I'd argue they were no better than the opposition Carlisle gave us on sunday. They easily lost the ball in the midfield (like the reverse leg), hardly created a chance through poor play (they had a corner no-one went for at one point) and the fact we could be so wasteful in front of goal and not have it bite us on the arse and to be honest still look certain to go down right now.

Great we won, great its three points, but i'm not going to knee jerk about the manager just because our international players beat a relegation zone team again. When we beat a team not in the relation zone then perhaps i'll start giving martinez a bit more credit.

Newcastle were poor. .

Yes they were. Even worse than I thought.

But you've not really answered my question. Why does Robles get your praise a little for dong basically not a lot to shut them out, but the boss gets none? Basically you're knee jerking about the keeper but telling people to not knee jerk about the manager.

Surely nobody should get a positive if they were that bad? By your logic anyway.

Robles didn't concede, and is doing that on a regular basis in goal. Howard does concede as the youtube videos show. I give credit to Robles because he was assured and doing his job when called on, because he is earning a first team place right now.

I give no credit to the manager because beating newcastle again doesn't prove anything. My stance hasn't changed on him just for beating what look like a championship team again, not exactly impressive if our only wins league wise in 2 and a half months have only been newcastle! Beating stoke on the weekend? Massively different story there and i will give him credit for that, he would be showing signs of turning the team round then.

The acid test for Martinez will be his team selection for Stoke.

I`m hopng he follows the old adage of not changing a winning team.

I can only guess at the level of fume if he drops Robles to the bench.
