sorry.
a keeper with half a football brain would have pulled out of that kick knowing the swansea player would kick it out of play
If they're scared to do it, then just hit the thing out, right?Stones at fault too but it obvious our defenders are terrified to play it to howard, and they were proved right
Oh well if your going to say 'end of' then you must be right.Stones has the chance to deal with the problem first, end of.
Defo, on Stones that but once he made the back pass Howard properly made a mess of itIf they're scared to do it, then just hit the thing out, right?
His "option" is what 99% of defenders would and should do. Just hit the damn thing out of trouble. Not sure how much is Stones and how much is Martinez teaching that crap, but a defenders job first and foremost is to defend and get the ball out of dangerous areas. Today Stones didn't defend and he put the ball in dangerous areas. 90/10 blame at most for me with Stones getting the lions share. Howard is crap now, but he's too easy to scapegoat for things like this. Stones should deal with it plain and simple. Perhaps he was surprised his 50mil rated center half would do such a silly thing. There's a reason impartial observers put the blame on Stones. It's because it's his fault.
Said in the match thread it wasn't just his fault. Mainly was Stones' fault. However he's so slow to react. Painfully slow. An alert keeper would have gotten to that as it wasn't massively underhit.
And I think the hesitation to pass to him stems from the lack of trust. It's a hard thing to put your finger on but I am convinced the defence as a whole are more unsettled with Howard at the back. I wouldn't trust him to catch a cold in flu season, so I don't blame the defence for thinking twice instead of instinctually passing it back
We take too many chances at the back plain and simple. Stones is a culprit more than most. Doubt Howard expected to have to deal with something like that. Even if he plays it perfectly, he BARELY gets there before Ayew. No need to risk anything like that.Defo, on Stones that but once he made the back pass Howard properly made a mess of it

Even if he offers him the help your desire, it's the wrong thing to do in that situation to attempt a back pass. What good does it do when Ayew is bearing down either way. Just defend and stop trying to be cute at the back. Problem solved. You put Shawcross in the defense instead of Stones, and I believe we have 7-8 more points. Similar to if you replace Howard with any decent keeper. The defense doesn't seem to understand what their actual job is. Hence why we give away so many soft goals, so many shots on target, etc. The silly passing around the back and cheeky cryuff turns hurt more than they help. We're also soft at the back as seemingly only Jags and Baines to an extent actually want to tackle anyone when they play.I'm not blaming Howard in full, but he's definitely at fault as well as Stones. Stones should take the blame, it's his error primarily, but Howard offers him no help - presumably what this 'experienced' player is in the team to do with so many young players.
